Should I trade in my 2012 TL SHAWD
Current I have a TL SHAWD with tech package, I had it around for 4 months. The mpg has been a trouble for me, I am constantly getting around 18 average. I live in California so there's always traffice, I want to trade in this car for something that is sporty and have greater mpg than this current car that I have. I have been thinking about the ford focus ST or the FRS. I want to head everyone's opinion.

Your question is hard to answer without more information.
it sounds like you want a car with better gas mileage. If that is your primary goal, by all means sell the TL and buy one of those tiny mini cars.
if you want a reliable daily driver that has some zip and handles really well, keep the TL and dont stomp on the gas pedal.

It's not like the MPG should have been a surprise after you purchased it?
Fuelly, EPA ratings, etc are all pretty clear what the AVG is...
Unless it's paid off, you're selling it for the payoff value, or you're selling for whatever the new car costs you're making a poor decision. If you're upside down on a loan or take a trade in offer you're going to be losing thousands potentially. A thousand dollars is a shit ton of gas...

^^ Agreed justnspace!! Lolz
Both cars are tiny compared to the TL, so you'll definitely sacrifice the fit and quality compared to those cars.
With that, I am not sure why you get 18 MPG average, as I drive from Ventura to LA or San Diego during heavy traffic and still average 23+ and the most I ever got was 29+ but that was mainly highway with some stop and go because of the PCH.
Look for the car that better fits your needs. Why did you get the TL and why are you going to choose one of those two cars other than just MPG. You'll have to weigh in your pros and cons. GL!

So your asking if you should trade your TL in for a car that gets on average 3-4 miles more per gallon ?
You want to trade a car that is pretty bulletproof when it comes to repairs/maintenance for a Ford, which is...a Ford ?
That makes zero sense. If you said a Civic I could understand, but a Focus ?

If you like cheap feeling/looking interiors, go for it.
You need to understand that these cars are meant to be big vehicles, weighed down with more quality materials and technology. FRS?!?!?!! That is going to be one underpowered car, regardless of how well it handles. Again, its interior is MANY levels of a downgrade vs the TL. The Focus ST would get my nod over the FRS, but still, this is a downgrade. I also would anticipate a heavy depreciation a vehicle like that down the road.
Honestly, did you expect a relatively large sedan, with a 3.7l V6 with 6 gears, and power being driven to all 4 wheels to be sipping fuel like a 4 banger???!?!

Well you can always do the rate test. You know that some people believe that going from 20 to 25 mpg saves the same amount money as going from 25 to 30mpg. Getting all mathy today
I drive fairly aggressive at times then go into cruise mode. I usually get 21 ish and long highways drive to Mn to SD I can pull 32mpg.

I don't find the fuel economy that bad on it. Using the miles left gauge, not sure how accurate that is. I would run empty at just under 800KM on the highway. That's very good for what the car offers you.

On my daily commute, I get about 9 to 11mpg (4.3 mile commute, 1 way, but takes 30-45 mins of driving time) However, if I'm cruising on the highway, the best I've gotten is 29.5 between VA and CT with no traffic. I usually do Shell or Costco 93 octane when available, and use Lucas fuel injector cleaner once every couple weeks.
