Can you reuse J-pipe gaskets?

I have an rv6 jpipe and it gets a lot of rasp/vibration, I would like to unbolt the entire jpipe and heard people putting a piece of cardboard piece in between the flex pipes and tighten it like that so the pipes aren't touching.

So my question again, can you reuse those gaskets after you take them off?

As long as it's not cracked yes you can re-use em.

My gasket going up to the manifold cracked and the nuts stripped and I had a bad exhaust leak. Rich sent me a new gasket and nuts right away for free.

The correct answer is NO for all exhause gaskets due to the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Cardboard? On your exhaust?
Don't be a cheapass and buy a new gasket, and get the jpipe repaired professionally or replace it.

^ he's talking about putting the cardboard between the two pipes (acts as a spacer), torquing it down, and then removing the cardboard. It's a standard install procedure many vendors recommend so that you avoid the pipes touching from the start which will lead to a rattle sound.

You can reuse gaskets as log as they seem ok. I would rather put new ones on though. Or you can use red gasket maker which creates a gasket for you.

I would always use a new gasket. It's the best way to ensure fitment and prevent leaks. Plus, a new gasket is about $3 - pretty insignificant in the grand scheme.

IMO, no reason to use RV6's "OEM" gaskets for their exhaust. Run down to your local auto and/or hardware store, and source gaskets and bolts for much less.

It's very hard to find some of these gaskets. I went to about 5 stores and couldn't get the dimensions just right so I bought some from heeltoe.

Agree with that for sure. having the gasket shape match the hardware shape isn't very important, though. just so long as its the proper ring diameter and can be properly pinched. I used standard diamond shaped gaskets for my j-pipe, instead of the triangle/'house' shaped gaskets.

Do you read my posts? It doesn't hurt to ask Richie if he'll send you a gasket.

Here's what happened to one of my gaskets:

Reused the ones on my XLR8 v2 a couple times, J-pipe had to be dropped for the front anti-roll bar swap and LCA bushings. No problems, no exhaust leaks, been on several road trips since. But they also looked mint, no tears or anything. If there had been any noticeable degradation, I would have replaced them.
