Thoughts on ride quality?

 

Haven't really driven the car much since the alignment needs to be done/bent control arm but once that is cleared I'll def have a review for you guys.

Gotta love that the lower control arms are a dealer only part, retail is over $1000 CDN for both. Managed to grab them for $900 tax in. It's all about who you know

Agreed. Once you have your final ride height picked, it needs moar wheel. Stat.

 

i'd like to see what you have to say on comfort at that height. awaiting review...

Just a heads up, my review on these will be slighty different since I upgraded to rear springs to 16k from the OG 8K that these come with out of the box.

Anyways, its been just over 2 months on these coils. I've done multiple cottage cruises, highway, city, smooth roads, shitty roads, gravel roads & to top it off my town has been a construction zone basically everywhere since the beginning of summer.

My first impression right away was that they were too soft (possibly under dampened) in the front since I felt that the it was too bouncy for my liking & was not impressed at all since I had these on my old first gen CL years ago & they were unbelievable when I installed them. I msged D2 since I thought they sent me the wrong front springs which would explain the bounciness but they confirmed that the springs were correct & that was the end of that convo.

As time went on I kept dabbling a few clicks stiffer on the dampening every time I drove the car & it got progressively better. As it sits now its full stiff all the way around & it has been that way for the last month and a half. The ride is surprisingly smooth but there has been some complaints from passengers in the rear over certain bumps in the road..

The ride most definitely isn't for everyone & certain roads don't help the cause either but speed plays a big part as well to how the car takes those hits. If your going semi quick its a ride lol but just cruising along it takes them really well.

Finally how she handles. I can't complain at all, especially since its on full stiff it just grips and goes. Wish I bought lower profile tires but that's a problem for next year. On/off ramps are just fantastic & it'll never get old. There have been some unbelievable faces on ppl driving 335s, M3s, civics, Miata's, a few Porsches & any other modified car that are just in disbelief that RL is able to keep up (or even pass) on corners.


Overall, if your wanna be able to go LOW then these are for you otherwise I would go for a set of Teins or Largus if you can get your hands on them. I paid $1100 US for these which was the "group buy" price which no one knows where this group buy took place but now the retail price is $1500 & for that I would rather look else where.

I had my mom's 350Z for two weeks about a month ago. The riding on rails that used to be annoying to me as a passenger wouldn't let the smile leave my face as a driver. I'm sure the RL would have some of the same after tightening up, but I'm not sure it would be enough with stock. You should turbocharge it.

 

I suggest Largus/Teins since they're tailored more towards comfort then performance & I'm sure most RL owners would want to retain a smooth ride.

Performance wise stock the RL most definitely isn't anything exciting & majority of the problem is from the dull 5spd auto. Performance mods are in the future but before anything I'm focusing on getting a 3rd pedal & going from there.

 

Nice to see a few more RL's in Southern Ontario. I just got one as well. I got a 06 NBP on black interior. I'm doing a timing belt and fluid service so I have a starting point. Nice car and keep us posted.

 

finally found this thread! looking good! If I had to lose the CL this would be one of my top choices.
would the TL 6speed bolt up to the RL engine? or would it have to be the SH-AWD 6speed trans?

 

SH-AWD 6spd to retain the SH-AWD. Plus converting a good chunk of electronics from the 4G TL 6 speed to the RL.

I've done the research & actually found a SH-AWD 6spd tranny for $1500. That's the easy part though. :wink:

 

Almost easier with a donor car. I doubt they're cheap enough now though.

Thank god roads are actually halfway decent in Southwest Ontario that you can actually pull off that ride height!

 

I commute to downtown Toronto everyday for school & there's nothing decent about those roads

For the most part though, I can cruise with confidence but if I get a little testy with the right foot shit gets real…REAL FAST Roads around here are quite deceiving, always gotta be on the look out.

Good stuff!! I wanted these wheels but i couldn't get 4 rears cheap enough and I didn't want to go staggered. Can't wait to see more pics though.

As for the fronts, they hit the calipers .. gonna try the 10s on the front tomorrow to see if that helps. Gonna need to be creative.

isn't there any good non dealer lower control arms? I'm seeing prices as 500 for both online.

You really can't go wrong with these cars & they cheap as shit. Bang for the buck 100%. Just gotta get lucky and find an Aspec.

I did manage to find them aftermarket from Becky Arney (sp?) but couldn't find any real reviews on them. Bit the bullet and went OEM, can't complain at all

 

Or you could build your own. I got lucky and things weren't discontinued when I was looking

 

Yea quality is better for sure! I just thought control arms in general are widely available. if it wasn't for aftermarket control arms my Audi would have entirely ruined me!

You did a great job on that car. I couldn't risk lowering it like that tho in good ol Monty here.. the local commies have us jailed between potholes and salty snow. But you're making me itch to go get products and do the lights and polish. Your car became looking like new there.

If the RL had basic 2 piston calipers they'd clear but nothing is basic about the RL..
