Whistle/chirp from heater
Whistle/chirp from heater
Hi guys,
When it's really cold out and I have the heater on, I get a subtle whistle or chirp sound from the fan or some other component. I've brought it up with the dealer, but of course it doesn't happen when the car's in. Any ideas? They didn't see any leaves/blockages.
Thanks!

Same problem here. A quick search using google and the right keywords and found a few posts in all kinds of forums saying that its dry or worn bushing in the blower motor and needs to be replaced. Usually it lasts a long time, even with the noise, before it stops working all together. I'll wait and see what happens. Replacing that piece is pretty easy if you feel confident enough to start taking things apart under the passenger side dash. You need to remove the filter from inside the globe box, and the panel underneath the dash that is hanging there with clips. Then its 3 bolts to remove the heater fan. The part at online parts stores (79310-TK4-A41) sells for around $55-$70.
... I looked at the process of removing this and it is a bit more complex than what I described. Needless to say unless you have the shop manual don't attempt. Apparently it also involves cutting off some plastic tabs. Not sure even if I would attempt this myself some day.
