More Type-S Rear Camber Issues
More Type-S Rear Camber Issues
Well a few months back, I had an issue with the toe/camber in the rear of my '08 Type-S. Ended up installing the adjustable links in the rear, re-aligned the car; problem solved. Until now...
Coming back from NC today (about 380 miles) the rear tires pretty much were eaten up. About 25 miles away from home I noticed a terrible vibration. Limped home, come to find the inner tread of both tires are ripped apart. The metal band showing. I was amazed that nothing serious happened. Everything under the car looks ok, and due to the fact the both tires are worn pretty evenly, it's a good assumption to say it's a suspension issue. The tires in the rear weren't' the greatest (not sure why the previous owner put them on
), but the way they were worn tells me it's not a tire issue.
I didn't notice any issues before until today. My buddy who was following me said when he was behind me, that the rear wheels were noticeably leaned in.
It dawned on me that I had a suitcase and a few misc. things in the trunk, as well as a passenger in the rear. I'm thinking that may have thrown the camber off.
Now my question is; how the h*ll can I fix this? I don't want to throw another set of tires on, only to find I can't make another long distance trip due to loading the rear of the car, causing the camber to go whack.
It's getting frustrating; twice now I've had rear camber issues. I love everything about this car, but if this keeps up, I'm not sure how much longer she'll be parked in the garage.
Sorry for the novel AZ

stock suspension or..?
What type of rear camber kit was installed? There's no way in reality that a light load in the trunk would through the camber that far off in that amount of time.
What tire psi do you have in the rear right now?

well that all sounds right. And what suspension/tires?
I will admit the TL is terrible with anything more than 2 people in the car and that on stock suspension it would be squatting a fair amount but that's pretty ridiculous that happened.

I'm throwing her on the lift tomorrow and going to check over everything again. But I don't think I'll find much...seems to be a flawed design by Acura...it's pretty sad that #1, you can't adjust the rear camber from the factory, #2, you can't "fully load" the car or you'll knock the whole suspension geometry off. Very frustrating...
That bad dude? I had my friend do my alignment with my drop and it didn't seem to be very far off from stock specs.
Hope this gets fixed cause your car is so fresh!

Wait. Stock suspension (as in not lowered) and you needed to install a camber kit?
More details on why you needed to do that might lead to why you're having problems now.

Tires make a huge difference.
I had a similar issue with a set of Falken 912s. Took a trip to Florida and came back needing them replaced after less than 20K. I now have a set of Goodyear Eagle GTs which I am happy with, so far. The guy at the tire shop said, "We know the car chews through second rate tires, so I want to put you in a set of better quality tires." Hence, the Eagle GTs. I was able to get 3 for 1 due to the substantially lowered mileage I got from the Falkens.
BTW, I do NOT have a camber kit installed. I specifically asked if one was needed (lowered on Tein H-Techs) and was told I was within specs.

I'm getting new tires and going to re-align it. I'm getting a set of Hancook Ventus V4 ES.
Had those on the front so far and love them.
I'm going to align it with some load in the back, take the load out, and then see where it settles back at.

Wonder if this is worth a shot...

I wonder if the dealer will fix this for free...I just passed my warranty by 1,000 miles

Thats not comforting. I just bought my Type-S last month and I was planning on doing eibach pro-series springs on it. Is this gonna need a camber kit too? and if its gonna eat tires is it worth it to lower it?

What you are describing is the TOE being set improperly. Is the ingalls the upper 1 arm camber kit or the lower 2 arm kit. Aside from the shitty bushings on my ebay specials I had on...the lower 2 arm kit is very easy to screw up the alignment and toe...when I had the camber kit on the car the alignment shop couldn't get it straight to save their lives.
Removed it and now I just have normal camber wear, which I can live with. Plus, car handles much better now.
The type of tires, and whether or not you had luggage or people should/would not do that. Take off the camber kit IMO.
Good luck.
