I don't know if this actually happned to other TL owners but, mine has a hairline crack on the passenger side motor mount while the rest is fine. I know that someone had mentioned that usually the front goes then the side then rear then tranny mounts. It was strange just to see the side one having a hairline crack in it while the rest is ok

Just an FYI for everyone thinking about this mod...try taking it to your dealer to have it replaced under warranty.

I recently took my car in for some warranty work (torn boot, replaced front axel) and they noticed that my mounts were broken as well. They replaced everything for free and my baby is smoother than the day I bought her.

*note: maybe the sea foam that I did last weekend helped too

i recommend getting the xlr8 mounts, as well, so you don't have to deal with this again...dealer was quoting me $500+ too.

you'll get vibrations in the cabin once you replace them, esp with the ac on, but they decrease as the days go by and/or you just get used to them. the car def feels more stable though.

replaced mounts over the weekend

I just replaced my mounts last friday...my front and side had cracks on them. The rear one looked ok but decided to replace them anyways since it took me 2hrs to remove. the front and side mounts doesn't take that long to replace. the longer you stay on your cracked mounts, the harsher the vibration gets.

Do I have to support the engine with hyduraulic jack stand in order to take out the mount?

I got a new front mount and took all bolts out but it looks like the mount is stuck and it's hard to take it out myself.

Any comments will be appreciated

Simon,
Yes you need to support and lift the engine witha a jack. Here are instructions from AZ...I'm not sure which thread I grabbed them from...it was a couple months ago. You can find them with a search.

Jack the front of the car up and place it on jack stands.
Pull all the little clips out of the plastic guard under the
motor.
put the jack under the motor just to take the weight off the mount.
Undo the bolts for the bracket connected to the motor, (2 underneath, 1 up top.)
Loosen the four bolts connecting the mount to the sub-frame. (they all need long extensions.)
Undo the bolt on top of the mount.
Take the four bolts out.
Twist the mount inplace and lay it on its side.
Pull it out from the drivers side by holding the upper radiator hose to the left.
It will barely squeeze out!
Voila!!
Repeat the steps to replace with new mount. I suggest to attach the mounting bracket to the engine loosly to be able to slide the top of the mount through the hole. That is a bitch, but VERY doable!

You will need:
two floor jacks
two jack stands
a block of wood or two to distribute the weight of the engine on the jack
2 6-10 inch 3/8 extensions
a strong 3/8 ratchet
17mm deep socket
14mm socket (possibly 14mm wrench too)
a blanket to lie on when doing the rear mount
and lastly lots of patience (especially the rear mount.)

one reminder, dont forget to remove your battery and the battery tray when doing this or your transmission housing will bend the tray when you're lifting the engine up. Good luck if you decide on doing this yourself. For the Side Engine mount, slightly raise the engine so you can remove the side mount.

My warranty book says 6 year 70K mile on the powertrain and lists motor mounts as a covered part.

I don't know if this link will work but it's the warranty booklet from the acura owners site.

"Your powertrain is covered for
6 years or 70,000 miles, whichever
comes first."
"
Cylinder block and head and all
internal parts, timing gears and
gaskets, timing chain/belt and cover,
flywheel, valve covers, oil pan, oil
pump, intake and exhaust manifolds,
engine mounts, engine/powertrain
control module, water pump, fuel
pump, seals and gaskets."

Copied from the manual. Why would the dealer say 4/50k.?

These appear to be a problem with our TLs. I am having other engine work done on my 04 with 107k miles. Is it worth getting the mounts done as preventative maintenance?

How's the installs? I would have a mechanic do it (hopefully not too hard/ expensive).

Also what is the cost for the OEM mounts (think this thread said there were 3)?

Thanks

I ended up replacing mine myself. Font and side weren't too bad. Rear was just a pain because of access. I will add that if you don't have a little bit of patience and a willingness to scratch the hide off of your forearms, maybe get a pro.

I got my parts online for about $230ish if I remember correctly.

1.) Did you have to remove BOTH radiator fans?
2.) Did you have to remove the radiator hose to move the fans?
3.) On a rating scale of 1-10 with 10 being the hardest how do you think the rear is?
4.) Did you remove the rear from underneath the car or on top?
5.) The front mount with the vacumme hose, any tips as you said it was tricky?
6.) Did you noticed anything different after you installed the mounts, meaning do you notice any more vibrations and stuff?

Thanks!

Thanks for the info a bunch! The dealer said my VIN lookup stated my motor mounts are out of warranty. When I told them the manual states it is under the powertrain warranty, he did a "powertrain" VIN lookup and voila! It is now under warranty. Saved me $700.00

engine mounts

Does any one recommend any better brand besides oems for engine mounts i had mine replace from my Acura dealership about 2 years ago and now they are broken again all of them. I had a coverage at the time so only paid $200 for the work and some other issues but now i have to pay full price which my dealer gave me a price of a little over $1 thousand no point of paying all that money if the parts will go out again soon.

If they are broken AGAIN in 2 yrs like that, you're probably a good candidate for the aftermarket Innovative mounts.

Pro=durability. Con=vibrations at idle. If you go with OEM mounts the pro/cons is reverse of that. I went with OEM.

does anyone know the part number for 2008 TL Type S AT for the the front engine mount and side engine mount. I just want to make sure I get the rights parts.

Also, for those who did this, did replacing the engine mount improve dynamics when going over bumps?

Thanks!
