Cold Air intake

What is the difference between the regular cold intakes or the short ram air intake...just the length?

Main differences:
1. Length.
2. Short Ram Intakes (SRIs)are closer to the engine which means they can possibly suck in more hot air.
3. Cold Air Intakes (CAIs) are more expensive.
4. CAIs may or may not suck in water since it is so low to the ground but if you are driving through that much water get an SUV instead (or dont lower your TL haha).

(funny story, i blew through a 2ft snow bank behind my car created by a snow plow the other day in my non-lowered TL-S)

Cai draws in cold air, short ram sucks in warm air. cooler air = more HP

watch out though, if you get cai submerged in water (rainy day / flooding) you could cause some serious damage.

that's why they make bypass valves and prefilters for cold air intakes

what do you guys think about the different intakes out there? i was looking at either injen intakes, aem cai, or the aem v2 intake. can anyone provide me with a comparison? from all that ive read there doesnt seem to be much difference it the actual output each one gives. which would you guys recommend for an 03 tl (non type s)? they are all around 250-300 bucks so i dont think price is a real issue. trying to get good performance for price and really a nicer sound out of it too. if there are any other intakes which perform better for my car please let me know

most people would prefer an injen cai over an aem cai mainly because of the bracket issues on the aem cai. welding seems much stronger and durable on the injen cai. as for hp output.. they roughly make around the same hp, 3" bended tube leading straight to an air filter.

since you have a tl-p and desire performance (although you won't feel it much from just an intake), you should get the aem v2. otherwise, i'd just stick with an injen cai.
