First Post! Help With Exhaust Please!

Hey guys first post here on azine.

I just did some exhaust work on my car this weekend (09 TSX). I added magnaflows 11225 and increased the pipes to 2.25 in. It sounds awesome; a low deep growl. The problem is that the shop recommended I take off the resonator...now its way too loud and the drone is terrible. What resonator do you guys recommend for this issue? Vibrant, magnaflows.... or something else?

Vibrant and Magnaflows are both well known and either will do well. If it's an exhaust shop, I'm surprised they don't carry some generic resonators. Problem with custom exhaust is you never know what you'll end up with or need to fix your droning. There's so many different styles of resonators and each will alter the overall sound of your exhaust differently.

I'm running an Tsudo cat back that was too loud and droney for my taste. The local shop took off the Tsudo resonator and put in a generic resonator, but it was longer (12" to 18" length change) which helped with the droning and soothed the noise down a bit.

Okay Awesome, thanks for you input!

I took it to Meineke, I think they do carry resonators. The thing was that when the car was done I was excited with the new noise and deep growl... but then after driving it for a bit and complaints from my father, I kinda figured it was TOO loud lol

I've also still got my stock exhaust in my garage, with the stock resonator... do you think that would be a good idea to put it back on? or get another one (aftermarket or shop exhaust)

Personally, I'd leave the stock exhaust alone so you can reuse it if/when you decide to sell the car. I would play with adding a resonator on to your custom set up.

That sounds like a good idea, thanks. How much did the shop charge you to put on the resonator? Meineke was saying about $100

My local shop charged me $8x.xx for parts and labor to take off the Tsudo and weld on their generic. I would call around to some performance/custom exhaust shops if there are any in your area. They work solely with exhausts and could give you a better idea to fix the issues you aren't happy with.

Vibrant ultra quiet resonators are the most effective ones I've used.

Yeah I think I was leaning more towards that one. I've gotten a little accustomed to the noise, but I think it would be best with a resonator. Does your still have that nice deep tone with the resonator?

Update for who ever is interested. About a couple of weeks ago I got a Vibrant 1140 2.25" Ultra Quiet Resonator, and boy did it make a difference. Car still sounds aggressive but drone is pretty much completely gone and my car isn't vibrating like crazy. Thank you guys!

New on here. Just ordered my 11225 for my '11 TSX. hopefully it sounds nice with the stock pipings! Are those factory tips on your exhaust?

Hey there! Yup those are stock tips. I just asked for them to remove it and bolt it on to the magnaflows; but welding it on may be better. You're going to run the magnaflows with stock piping? The stock piping is 1.25 in I believe and the magnaflows are 2.25 in, at-least the ones I got. You might have some difficulty getting them welded.

At-least that's what they told me at the shop. The guy said he can weld them on but that it might not sound as well because he'd have to weld the inlet of the muffler down to the stock pipe size. Where are you planning on getting them welded?

Oh okay. I went to meineke, they were okay; they got the job done. I took some pictures of my stock exhaust and some measurements I'll post em for you.

Thanks for the pics. How much did meineke charge you? Also, forgot if you stated this or not, but did you end up taking off the resonator?

I think it was around $250 to get everything welded and get the new piping. I originally took off the resonator, but I regretted my decision. The car was too loud even when I was going slow. And not to mention the drone and the backfiring constantly; which caused me too eat up gas. So I ended up getting a vibrant resonator in place of the stock one

Thanks for the info dude. I was thinking about taking off the resonator cause people say its too quiet with it, but I'm probably gonna leave it on now that i talked to you.

Yeah it's up to you man. I'd suggest leaving it. It cost me about 90 for the resonator and another 90 to weld it on. Wish I would've kept the stock one on lol. But you live you learn. If you need any more help just lmk

Thanks bro. saw your picture on your profile. How did you manage to take the front plate template off? I live in Pennslyvania and we don't have front plates!

Oh the car never had one to begin with lol. I live in Florida we don't use them either. I sometimes think it'd be cool to have one though.
