Question speed governor?

did your tl's come with a speed governor. i read in the magazines that the tl is speed limited at 130 but i have had mine up to 147 (until someone pulled in front of me and i had to slam on the brakes). i was wondering if my car was normal or an exception.

From what I could tell, the TL has no speed governor. I've had mine above 130mph, as do several TL members here.

From what I have read the TL has no limiter. The top speed is in the mid 140s.

i was just wondering because i was slightly confused when i saw that the top speed in my car was 130 when i had already had it over that. i have had it over 130 several times and i never even had to turn on the navi.

I would never operate navi at that speed - too dangerous. I prefer to use a map.

I disagree on the governor. It may not be a speed one, but a RPM one
When I got my TL DYNOED, they could tell right away the car at a governor

I coulda sworn I've read 145'ish, but I coulda also sworn I read that someone slapped on a set of Z-Rated and took the TL to 160.

There is not a speed governor. There is however a rev limiter. The rev limiter is bad, you don't want to hit this. It is a fuel cut, which means when you hit the limiter your car is starved of fuel, hence detonation, which you know is not good.......

If I remember correctly, the TL is atmospheric drag limited to about 149 mph....there is no electronic speed governor as such...

wow, how long does it take for the car to get up to 145? The highest I've gotten is 125, and it just takes FOREVER to accelerate when youre up at those speeds.

No speed limiter. Drag limited. Typically around 140 MPH, depending on incline and wind.

Just a rev limiter-- no fuel injection above redline, until you drop back below it. Feels funny the first time. Used to hit it all the time on my CR-X. The Integra GS-R, not as often because of the higher redline.

Love to hear those CART and F1 cars on their revv limiter at every pit stop. Doesn't seem to damage them!

There is no speed limiter on the TL. I've had mine to a tad over 130 and my friend has had his to an indicated ~142. There is an RPM limiter, of course, to prevent you from trashing the motor by revving it to hell.

Question

I'm curious as to how you guys got your TL up over 110? I've got both the TL and the CL-Type S and they both shut off at 110. Surely the Type S has the engine to go over 110. When I hit 110 on my TL, I'm still at like ~3500 RPM. I've always been told that the ECU needed to be reprogrammed.

Welcome Hammer, fellow Atlantan.
I've already had my TL over 120, on 75 southbound under the connector headed towards home, was just trying to get out of a clusterf*ck of traffic and didn't realize I hit 120, damned car

Question

Do you have to have it in SS mode to get the speed up that high?

first of all i have a 4-spd '99. if you leave it in auto it will shift at around 6250. if you leave it in 3rd it will get up to 125 pretty quick. it is just when you hit 4th that the acceleration isnt that great.

I certainly hit one, and hit it hard. I was not, however, in sport shift.......I was just in d5. How many of you have gone above this or limited out.
