So today something was really different when I drove my car. First I noticed that the idle was rough. The RPMs weren't fluctuating up and down, it was just shaky as long as it was in idle. Then I noticed that as I was accelerating, the car would shake even worse than when it was idle. It would shake as long as the car was accelerating but would stop shaking if I was started to coast. The acceleration of the car seemed fine, speed wise, and as I pushed it a little harder it would shake a little less, but it was still there. But as I was pushing it a little harder, the CEL would start blinking. I kept testing this and it seems that once I get over 2.5-3k RPM, the blinking would start. As I back down off the gas pedal, the blinking would go on for like 10 seconds and then stop. Happens in every gear.

I know I need to get the codes pulled. Currently trying to find a friend who has an OBDII reader because here in California its not free and also it's late here so all shops are closed already. I definitely will get it checked by a mechanic, but I was wondering if anyone has experience these problems or know what might be the problem.

I had the samesymptoms a few months back. I suggest if at all possible do not drive it. I had a bunch of different codes on mine from egr to transmission. Ended up being ignition coil.

When the Cel flashes thats really bad.

Hows your mpg's? Really bad. Cars trying to compensate for one or more less cylinders then.

So I just checked the code and it was throwing a P1399. Random/Multiple cylinder misfire.

Been reading a few threads since I got the problem and it seems that many people check their ignition coils because that's the likely culprit. I've never had to do much on my car except the oil change. Is this easy to do yourself? I tried to find a DIY link, but with luck. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Very easy diy.

Stop by auto parts store of your liking. Pick up a ignition coil. ~60 bucks at my store.
Remove front engine cover.
You need a 6mm allen key to remove a coil.
Replace one coil with new.
Pull fuse #13 _ passenger side fuse box for 1 minute. Its labeled clock but its also power to engine computer. No need to pull battery cable off.
Start engine.
Does car still run rough? Replace coil and move to next one with good coil.
Pull fuse to reset computer each time.

If it was like mine youll know when youve hit the right one, the engine will sound happy again!

Also be very gentle with these coils. They dont like to be bumped around. Treat em like theyre made of glass.

I was reading some thread's that some people actually just unplugged the coils one by one and checked if the RPM's dropped or not? That sound's a bit dangerous.

Gonna go part's store right now and pick up a coil. Hopefully its only the coil's that the problem. But I also hope its only 4 5 or 6 cause 1 2 3 look like a pain in the ass to take out.

If your engine is already acting the way it is just unplug one at a time. It will tell you which one it is. Its not dangerous at all, just shut the motor off every time. You will know when you unplug a good one and when you unplug the one that isnt working.

Well I already bought the new coil. Already tried 4 and 5, now on 6. Just hope my battery doesn't die from all the starts lol. Might just try to pull the plug on 1 2 3 if this one doesn't work cause those next three look like a pain to get to. Doesn't help that my hood lifts are dead too.....guess I'll fix that after I'm done with this problem.

Turns out it was one of the ignition coils. Never had to do any repair work on any cars before and the satisfaction of fixing it myself (with your guys' help too) feels so great. Almost felt at loss when I got to the last coil, yes that's right, it took me 6 times to find which one it was. Funny thing was I started with 4 5 6, then moved to 3 since it looked easier to get to. That didn't work and I looked at 1/2, and decided that 1 looked harder to get to so I might as well get that out of the way and took out 1. Turns out it was #2. O well, was worth it. Thanks again guys.
