They quoted me $300 for a new axle. I need the car back and I trust them. The transmission was my major worry. They rebuilt it 11 months ago and it has a 3 year 100k warranty. Diagnosis is in line with what happened.
Should I replace the other axle soon?

You usually replace axles when needed. But if you get a better deal for doing both now, it's up to you....
