Cool Programming a 2002 TL-S Key

Hello all! I recently purchased an 02 TL-S a few weeks ago, and absolutely love it!! I bought a key from Ebay, and was wondering if I have to go to the dealer in order to program the key. Please help! Thank you!!

1...your new key
2...a MASTER KEY (one with the remote in it)already programmed to car.
to program the transponder- (thats the immobilizer part)
sitting in dr. seat, put the master key in ignition, and turn to on.engine OFF. press the gas pedal 5 times to floor and release. now press brake 6 times (press and release)
remove master key from ignition. install new key and turn to on...engine off. press gas to floor once. now wait. the security light will blink for about 45-60 seconds, then it will go off if you did it correctly. once the light is off, car should start.

For the remote part. in drivers seat WITH DOOR OPEN. start with door unlocked. first put master key in ignition, turn to on, then back off and remove. using the lock/unlock button on drivers door. press lock.. then unlock 5 times.(lock, unlock, lock, unlock, lock, unlock, lock,un lock, lock, unlock)
Close drivers door, open drivers door.
Performe lock/unlock procedure again.
insert key in to ignition and turn to on, then back off and remove.(at this point the doors should lock and unlock by themselves ONCE)
Now press both lock and unlock buttons on REMOTE. release after about 1.5seconds. now press just the lock button on remote.
now open and close the drivers door a couple times to close programming. if you did it right, remote will now work.

Hi, sorry to bump an old thread, but will this also work for a 2000 TL? I keep hearing mixed messages on it and even my dealer didn't seem to be entirely sure.

Thanks.

Hmmm, I hope so. I was looking at a key/fob online here:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/1999-2000-2001-99...ayphotohosting

And that seemed to indicate in the description that I have to get it programmed by a locksmith. I guess I can always get my key cut, try these steps, then run back in and cough up the cash if it doesnt work.

Also, do you know whether it's important for the fobs that I replace the one I've lost, as in the #1 and #2. I keep hearing about that, but I really dont know since none of these sites selling them indicate which number their fobs are.

Thanks

Hi, sorry to bump an old thread.

I tried this on a 2003 TL without success. Are the instructions different?

Is there a switchblade key that can be programmed for our TL? I see newer TLs have them, is there a year we could use? Or an aftermarket? Doing a search really just brings up keys for sale.

When you say to press the gas pedal once to the floor I am assuming you also mean to release it. Is that correct? Or do I keep the pedal to the floor until the security light goes off?

Thanks for your help!

You still have to get the new key cut first, right?

Bump for great thread.

Bought two keys on fleabag for $14. Lowes cut them for me for free. Programmed flawlessly.

No more worries about losing/breaking only key!

I went to lowes today and got an ignition key cut AND programmed for $29. Why would anyone go through this when you can just go to lowes and have them do it for that price?
Good luck.

Mine is a 2003 Acura TL Type-S. I believe they can program up to 2003, but beyond that it's a no go.
Also, ACE hardware can do it, but Home Depot Cannot

The Lowe's in my area won't cut and program my key, they said I have to buy there's. There key sucks it's just a plain key without the Acura logo on it. The key is for a 2g cl which is basically the same thing as the 2g tl.

From the above I'm not sure how to program new keys to my 2003 tl. I have both original keys but from bad experience with ford (cost $170) when I misplaced my 2nd key I would like to have a backup. Bob

io really hate to bring this thread back up but i need to clarify 2 quick points i am not seeing , tho forgive me as i am an oldie-- though i will argue also a goodie--anyway---- programming a new key--- you do mean to hold the accelraqtor down and release for the new key ? or hold it down and no relaese ?--- secondly-- when i program a key-- will i have to then reprogram the original key as i did the fob?
