2nd Gen VTEC

Last May I installed four new rotors (cross drilled and slotted from brakemotive on eBay) and the ceramic pads which come with those rotors. I bled the brakes and put genuine Honda brake fluid back in. I'm really not sure how many miles I've put on the car since I've had the new brakes, and I've never been hard on them or abused them.

I'm getting a very bad shake on the steering wheel when braking, and I can also feel it in the front end of the car. I'm out of the 120 day warranty issued by brakemotive, and they will only give me a discount on new parts. I really don't know what to do. I know that I have a warped rotor somewhere and I'm ready to pull all of these rotors and pads off and start all over again with new parts from somewhere else.

It's definitely not a wheel balancing issue or alignment issue, since those two things were just done a few weeks ago

Yep, warped rotor. I'd go ahead and replace rotors and pads. Check your pad wear and make sure calipers are functioning properly and not sticking or anything. I'm not familiar with that brand, but if you feel the quality wasn't the cause of the warping, get the discounted parts from them, otherwise try a different brand.
I love my ebc slotted rotors and redstuff pads.
I know some have no problems, but I personally stay away from drilled rotors.

Make sure to look at every component before condemning the rotors like a loose tie rod or some other steering component.

Yeah, other things can cause shaking in the front end.....check everything to make sure that the suspension is tight. Also check the wheel balance and tires. Could be a sticky caliper hanging up ?

the 3rd gen TL'ers have been very un happy with brake motive.
there is a thread. check it out, as people claim the same thing you are.
"shaking, warped"
some have gotten their money back.

remember, you get what you pay for.
plus, drilled rotors are prone to crack because of the close proximity of the drilled holes to each other, weakening the rotor.

Did you replace your rear rotors as well? They can and do cause the shaking as well.

When you did the brakes, did you torque your lugnuts? Over torquing them will cause the rotor to warp. Have you tried to bed them in to see if that helps?

I bought those rotors and pads for all 4 wheels back in December of '12. By June after 10K miles or so they were warped and shaking like crazy in the front. I went and bought the Duralast brand rotors from Autozone and their Duralast Gold CMax pads and couldn't be happier. It's been nearly a year since then and I don't have any shaking or rattling even after the last 10K I've put on them. Just checked out the pads during my last oil change and there's very minimal wear to the pads so far. Highly recommended as a replacement to the super crappy BrakeMotive set.

If the rear calipers are sticking it could cause an imbalance in your braking system, making your car shake. Don`t throw away your rotors and brakes until you assessed all the your options. Calipers do go bad. If your brake pads have uneven wear on them that`s one sign of a bad caliper.

^^ If he has the 1 pot caliper I bet yah he Warped those rotors..
Cheap rotor + 1 Pot = 100% Guaranteed WARP.
Now?
Cheap rotor + 2 Pot = ???? If anyone could chime in on these? at least my EBCs never warped but those aren't considered in the cheap segment of our rotors sets.. I'm talking about O´Reilly and Autozone brands

The stop techs at XLR8 for 250 bucks have some great solid reviews. Don`t buy rotors and brakes until you have the whole system checked out. It would be horrible to replace parts that are not broken.

Yes, I replaced the rear rotors also, and the lug nuts were properly torqued. I haven't tried to bed them in, but I will give that a try. Thank you very much for the info

Bedding them in leaves a coating of the brake pad on the rotor. Depending on which ones you bought usually its about 5 moderate brake stops from 50 to 15 mphs never letting the car actually stop. Then drive around a bit to let system cool down.

I know that I definitely bed the brakes in when I put those rotors and pads on. I think it's just a case of crappy parts at this point

Nope, seems like it's been awhile since the new rotors and pads were installed, so the damage is imbedded.

Be sure to check the calipers and make sure that the tires, rims and suspension components are all good before doing the work over again.
