hi guys,
i read about the transmissions and it finally happened to me. the previous owner was too lazy to get it serviced, but i bought the car salvage and warranty was void. anyway, my buddy bought 2 CLs, cut em and joined em but he has the transmission in good condition from one of them. my question is, would the tranny fit mine? he has all the gauge cluster, shifter, ecm.. a lot of shops have quoted me on a rebuild, and the cheapest I can find in chicagoland is $1400. could i have some recommendations? so far im thinking to buy a used tranny from a junkyard, installing it and sell it asap... ??

It will bolt up but getting it to work?? The 99 is a different animal from the 00-03. Plus the 5 speeds are prone to more failures than the 99 so you may want to look for a 99 or have yours rebuilt?

how good are you at fabricating parts and figuring things out as you go?

I agree with fsttyms- junkyard 99 engine or rebuild yours, which should come with all new timing belt-water pump-spark plugs etc- ready to run `as new`

i have a friend that blew his engine in his 99 and is doing a 6spd swap as we speak. his trans still works fine and he babied it. where in chicago r u?

im past shaumburg but could pick it up. i used to live in harwood heights...right across wright college. please find out if he can do better than $380. thats the cheapest quote i got. how many miles did he do on it? also did it have that jet kit installed? my cell is 8472262505.. thanks!
