Exclamation 99-03 TL Transmission Statistic

did a rough stat on 99-03 TL transmission failure earlier based on the 2G Forum Sign In Thread, here are the results:

GIVEN:
190=Total Posts On Thread
159=Actual Listed Transmission Status
112=Original Transmission
47 =Failed Transmission

CONCLUSION:
30% Failed Rate
70% Healthy

-out of 10 random picked 99-03 TLs, 3 of them will have transmission issue.

-numbers may change if go into more detail such as "numbers failed per year made" or "numbers failed base on mileage", but this is just a 10 mins result, WHICH IS SHOCKING TO ME!

-are this info new to anyone? because i was told that it's around 10% fail rate since day 1.

It's a nice stat to know, but it should be taken with caution. There are too many other variables that aren't controlled for. For example:
- Most of these cars are modified.
- People who are member of Acurazine are likely to drive their cars harder than the average person
- Your sample group is not random!

I'm not saying that any of the above are factors that necessarily kill/hurt your tranny, but they are still factors to consider.

Plus we acurazine members are more likely to be "car" people who are gonna bitch if something goes wrong. So I would think all of our problem stats are inflated somewhat.

If there's an Acura car show here this year, I'll carry around a tranny in a backpack with a sign that says "wanted: oil jet & new clutch pack". Then people can sign the thing with a sharpie for each replacement transmission they received. We'll count signatures...this is obviously very scientific.

You have to take this stat with a grain of salt. I'm still on my original tranny (knock on wood) and I'm over 100,000km (60,000 miles). I'm sure there are 10000s of people who don't surf the web with a 99-03 TL with no tranny problems either.

My poll says there are more. It really is hard to get an accurate number unless you're acura and have concrete numbers as to how many cars were produced and how many have been into the dealer for failure.

That's going to be one hell of a workout! A TL tranny isn't light.
