2000 3.2TL P1740, I know what it means :( just need some experienced advice!

I just bought a 2000 Acura 3.2TL with 123K miles on it. Before I took it to get it smoged (emissions test in cali) I scanned it to make sure all the Emissions monitors where ready and they were. Than even though the CEL was not on I scanned it for codes and it gave me P1740 4th gear pressure switch fluid flow or something to that effect, I dont remember the exact description.

Searching around on this forum I know it seems to be a common fault code on these cars and it usually means a dying transmission, my question is, to me the transmission shifts pretty much flawlessly I cant get any thumping or jolting in any gear no matter how I drive it...I have checked the ATF and its pinkish to light brown and doesnt smell burnt at all... So what are my chances of or I guess how long can I prolong the life of this transmission if I replace the 4th gear pressure switch and do a 3x3 D/F on it!

Should I not waste any money on this? I can probably get close to my money back if I resell it even with this cel since I got the car cheap.

All advice appreciated,
thanks

one last thing I erased the code to see how soon it comes back and have driven it for about 80 miles and it still hasnt come back.

If the car has been shifting fine, I would just replace the pressure switches and do a 3x3.

I think there's 2 pressure switches. One for 1,3,5 and another for 2,4. Could be completely wrong though.

Yes the third and fourth gear pressure switches

@ karanx7 I beleive the rest are internal and can't be replaced without cracking the case however I could be wrong

The code may not come back on.

I had the code, which cleared and reappeared.

After purchasing the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches, I decided to try restoring the switches with brake cleaner.

It worked, and I resold the switches. It has been sixteen months and 23,000 miles since my service.

Hey Iponnent22, ya may just want to try a drain & fill using Honda DW1 fluid, if you're not experiencing any shifting problems. Replace the tranny's external filter and clean the Lock-up/Shift control solenoid valve "A". Could be the screen's clogged or the connector's loose ?

If after resetting the code and it comes back, then replace the Pressure control valve "A/B" assembly as previously suggested. Worth a shot if the fluid is old and worn.
