Not An Ashtray won't close
So what's the fix for this thing.
I tried to see if a piece of metal or a magnet stuck to the top would fix it, but with both scenarios it still didn't close. I also searched the forum but was unable to find a link.
Any help is much appreciated. This is kind of bugging me.
Thanks

"Latch"! Search for "latch"! You might have to look past pg 1. $4, Oemacuraparts.com, under console.

I wish it was a $4 part.
You are talking about the "ashtray" in front of the gear selector that has a label with "Not an Ashtray", correct?
If so, I just replaced mine because it would not stay closed. The cause is a really small part that probably costs 25 cents, but you have to buy the entire 'pocket' for approximately $50. Check out this link (click here), you will need item 22. Part 39 actually is the failure, but as you will see, it's not available separately.
I actually took the small piece a part to see if it could be repaired. There is a super small plastic cam mechanism that rotates to give you the one click close, one click open feature. This small plastic piece broke a tooth off and I couldn't see a way to repair it.
Hope this helps.

You are not trying hard enough. This is what searching "latch" in this forum gives.

To be frank, and a little rude, I think you need to pay the dealer $180 just for lack of effort.

FYI, clicking the blue arrow next to the quoted users mane will take you to that post.
Also, it is apperently the same part that holds down the AUX power which is under console. You are correct that this pocket is under Instrument Panel Garnish though.

Sorry to be so dumb, but I tried to find this in Search and couldn't:
What is the original purpose of Not An Ashtray, anyway?
Is it supposed to be a place to stash your key fob while driving? And if so, why not just keep it in my pocket where it was perfectly happy before I got into the car?

I replaced both my coin tray thing and my cigarette lighter with new latches. I bought the latches at the dealer for $7 each. A little higher than online, but I just did it one weekend on a whim. So you can definitely get the latches separately. The part number was in one of the threads mentioned.

whatever you do, DO NOT LET THE DEALER FIX IT!!! they will tell you that the whole ashtray needs to be replaced and charge you an hour labor to replace it. the part you need is literally like $4 as stated already. I had the same problem and fixed it in 15 minutes, that's with zero percent mechanical skills.
