hazed rl headlight with urethane clear coat clear like new

hey just wanted to share my pics of what cleared coated headlights look like. i didnt want to buff them as they would start to fog-haze after a few months. i heard that using urethane clear coat on them will make them last and my uncle was painting his truck so i decided why not. can't believe how they came out

So, that's just sanded with 1,000 grit & blown in with clearcoat?

Nice result. It seems too easy, somehow!

Well, I cannot see it flaking off any faster than anything else one might use, so if you get a couple of good years out of it - right result!

i have heard anything from 3-5 yr. we used a good quality clear coat so it should last. i laid it down 2 coats thin so it would stick. its got good uv protection

Looks nice! I thought about doing that but after reading several forums about it i changed my mind since a lot of folks said the headlight heat would cause the clearcoat to yellow. Whether that would really happen or not i don't know but I was afraid to try haha. Looks sweet though!

Thanks!! Iam not sure about the yellowing. I have heard that with enamel clear coat that comes out the spray can. The light I don't think give out that much heat because they are hid. I may be wrong I guess time will tell

I tried everything on my own that wasn't so obtrusive or require taking off the headlights.

Nothing really worked. The best results I got came from using 3M paint rubbing compound made for cars, a microfiber towel and a ton of elbow grease. It came out nice, but it's nothing like what you achieved.

Very nice!

The H1 main beam is probably your enemy. Since the car is usually moving, it will get cooling effect most of the time.

I understand the biggest cause of yellowing is that nuclear reactor in the sky. They do get hot then.

I'd avoid rattle cans - professional paint (like OP did) or don't bother.

well our main beam is the ds2 hid. the high beam is on as daytime running lights and even then the housing does not get hot. so far been three weeks and they still look great. changed the car completely

Rost in transration!

The HID is 'dipped' beam & H1 is 'main' beam over here. Or 'full' beam, alternatively.

Divided by a common language...
