Driver door handle won't lock when I touch the dimple..

Yup anyone have that problem? When I hover my hand inside the handle it will unlock, but when I try to touch the dimple on the driver side door, it won't lock. But on the passenger side, it will lock when I touch the dimple. Just see if any of you have that problem? My remote still works though.

I've had both door handles replaced TWICE for the same issue. Problem was chronic after handwashing or going through a touchless car wash.

Last one was replaced three months ago. So far so good.

No. It has nothing to do with seepage. It has to do with the type of sensor used in the door handle. When it "senses" water droplets, it screws up the logic and the sensor won't work. For some reason some door handles are more susceptible to this problem than others.

I had my driver's side handle replaced a year ago and have had no issues since. The passenger side has always worked.

*Raises hand* Yup, I've had the issue on the driver's side and it was replaced under warranty. I expect it to need replacement again at some point given the experience on this site. This is why I have an extended warranty.

I have had my passenger door handle replaced too. Usually after awhile it will start working again. Other than that, you have a trip to the dealer.

KB1 - what year is it and did you just buy it?
This was a known problem in 05s and I would have thought anyone with the problem would have had the handle replaced by now

Is this also common with the unlock function as well? Seems like every other time it takes 3 or 4 touches to get the 2 beeps to unlock driver door.

have never seen anyone complain about door locks other than 05
mine is 05 and after replacement, it works flawlessly. Ever, ever so rarely I may have to touch twice (probably missed the dimple). Cannot recall ever having to touch unlock twice.

Mine's an '06 and my driver's door handle was acting up on occasion. Although it worked fine for the dealer, they replaced it anyway since there was (is) a known issue. Has worked fine since, even after a good washing. Unlocking has never been a problem.

Anyways, going to the dealer this weekend and check on the problem. I thought I was the ONLY one here with that problem.

Is there a way to prevent it to happen again if I wash my car? Thanks.

Mine is an '06, and as I said, I'm on my third set (replaced twice).

I think I have you all beat, had my 05 handles replaced 4 times, and the driver side is not unlocking currently with the handle, but I refuse to take it back a fifth time. I turn it in next month off of lease.

When I wash the car with FOB in pocket, the car will lock or unlock repeatedly as handle gets wet. Simple solution is put FOB in car when washing. However, I do not have any problem symptoms after washing the car, so I don't worry about it.
I think the "wash" problems are more pronouned, i.e., linger if you go thru a power wash.

If you search the Forums, someone had posted a thorough explanation of the technology and why water has an effect

It is a very good explanation, but nothing that they have fixed. It's rediculous that water can ruin a sensor so often. It is obviously flawed in its design fundamentally. It's a car.... its going to get wet!!! After 4 repairs, I've just got used to using the keyfob. My latest stopped working 2 weeks after replacement!!

Tuna - seems very odd that yours continues to fail. The water problem is very temporary as in minutes after washing the problem is gone. I wash the car every week.
As I said after replacement (once), mine is flawless. I barely have to touch the dimple to lock or unlock.

I'm glad that yours hasn't caused as much grief. With mine though there was more than just complete failure. I would suffer through 4-6 weeks(maybe longer) of the door handles not working when it was raining. Of course, that is the very time you need it the most!! So I would mention the problem during regular scheduled maintenance, and if it were dry out, they would work and the dealer could do nothing. I would have to wait until it completely stopped working, wet or dry, before bringing it in. Very frustrating!! I doubt I'm the only one with multiple door handle issues unfortunately. I started a thread about the same issue and had many chime in. I really do feel that the sensor system is novel but flawed. I have a new Infiniti which has the Intelligent Key. It's a push button on the door handle, which may or may not be as susceptible to failure, but probably more mechanical and probably less likely to malfunction, time will tell. I hope yours continues functioning because once you get used to having it, you gotta have it!!

Just to update what happen. I got it to work last night. For some reason, I just dab liquid wax on a towel and wipe it onto the handle. Then for some reason I was able to touch the dimple and the door was lock. I dunno what I did but it work for some reason.....strange.

This is temporary. It's a pain in the rear, though.

According to my cousin (he being an Acura mechanic) was telling me that the 2005 RL has a lot of problems with locking the doors, but not unlocking. I know that mine does not lock the doors (only once has it happened and on the passenger side only).

many of the door handles on the 2005 had problems and should have been replaced under warranty. Once mine were replaced, they have locked flawlessly.

Looks like I'm going to need to get mine replaced. When I bought my car it would only unlock...one time I SWORE it locked itself when I got out...but I thought I was crazy, I had no idea it would lock too...I guess I should take it in.

Hand washed my '06 for the first time, chamois dry and it will not lock now and it's been over 24-hours. I'll give it some time before going to dealer.

Acura has a TSB out on this, I light looked at it while finding TL TSB's but I think it they had a revised door-handle with a better seal or something.

Every time ours has crapped out as been after an automatic touchless car wash. I have never had trouble after hand washing.

Yea when you wash it water gets in a bit open and close the doors a fewtimes to shake the water free and leave it. I washed it yesterday and it did it to me and its fine now. Good luck everyone just be patient.

I don't think it is a matter of water getting into anything in the door/handle. Someone posted a link to an article that explained the technology and what happens when it gets wet. I cannot find it right now.

Yes i read that but from what i see water does get in there and if water did not get in then there wouldn't be a problem. They are made to get wet and dry out just like inside your door. I have worked for Honda and no longer do because they dont care about you or your car. The people that care are in japan where they take pride in what they do thats where Honda and Acura were born. I have been put down so many times for driving a HONDA but now north america is changing Toyota is at the top now only to be followed by honda i hope and show all that imports are the best exspecialy Honda!
