My 2016 RDX was insulted by two people today :(
So... I didn't mention to any of my friends I got a new luxury car (the 2016 RDX). I'm copying my friend who got a Lexus RC Fsport2. He bought it and didn't say anything until someone noticed. I only answer people if they inquire.
First, an elderly woman who is a family friend (she owns some high end cars even a Porsche Panamera), I guess she's not that into cars, was driven in my car. She asked if my vehicle was a Cadillac.
Second, a friend saw my car at night. Commented how great it looked and asked if my car was a Lexus.
Could've been worse I guess... *shrugs*

Don't fear, I had an old lady tell me that my RL was nice, only to follow it up with the following question: Is that a Chevy? I honestly wasn't even sure how to respond lol
No one knows what these freaking Acuras are

I firmly believe the head designer at Lexus should be fired for making atrocious design decisions regarding the front fascia design language of the Lexus. The grill they have now is inexcusably hideous. This is one reason I believe Acura is on the way up, and Lexus is on the way down. The current design languge of the Acura is gorgeous. They have the grill at the right size and shape and beautiful diamond-like headlights with so many interesting lines to look at on the 3D grill. Expect rising sales numbers especially for Acura's second best best looking vehicle, the 2016 RDX (The 2017 NSX is the best looking but then again it's also the best looking sports car in its class).

Not sure about the NSX comments -- it depends a lot on what angle and what height you're looking from. They are way cool, no matter. A couple of them (a red one and a black one) rolled through the dealership about a month ago. You never saw so many people goldbricking in your life. All business stopped. I found it hard to get the right camera angle for making a good picture.

I was one of the first to get an Acura in my neighborhood 9 years ago (06 TSX). Now, there are about 6 Acura on my street and only 2 Lexus of the pre-space ship design (mostly under 50 crowd). We are still out numbered almost 10 to 1 with domestic SUV/truck/sedan brands. 84 month financing on a Dodge Dart is hard to pass up for some folks.

I was walking my best friend today and noticed something scary for Toyota: their grills are copying the Lexus grills except it might even be uglier. I didn't think it was possible but I saw it with my own eyes. I was baffled as to why anyone would own such vehicles. The new Hondas are better designed than the new Toyotas, just as the Acuras look better than the Lexus. I still believe in the Toyota/Lexus reliability though but the aesthetics will pull their sales down.
I find myself agreeing with all you've said. Lexus is so stupid for making an old fart's vehicle look like a spaceship. Seems like such a strategy would lose both ends of the spectrum of buyers. Whatever the case, they sure are ugly, and the RX 330 -- the starting point -- is one of the best looking cars ever made, IMHO. Toyota sucks so much!

In the more upscale neighbourhoods in my city, Acuras are everywhere. Some houses have 3 Acuras in the driveway even. You also have the German luxury cars and Lexus and Infiniti but I'm noticing a large number of Acuras. This is in areas where home values are well over $1 million to multi million dollar homes.

Hmmm... I'm thinking the elderly woman may have mistook the Buick for a Kia.

I totally agree with you. Toyota and lexus vehicles have gone out of their way to be ugly. I don't know what the head of their design department got for those front ends, but I hope it was at least 3 years. Acura, on the other hand, seems to have really toned down its beak front ends. It seems that acura may actually now be serious about competing in the market.

I drive both sometimes on the same day..No comparison Period! The RDX is nice but not up to the rx in ride and comfort. Also there is no substitution for good insulation, dampening and build quality than using noise canceling technology.

The RDX is by no means a comparable car to the RX. Lexus is a priority for Toyota and the RX is a luxury vehicle. The RDX is merely a spruced up Honda. I don't think acura is a priority for Honda. I think Honda uses its "B" team on acura. My wife picked our car. It is not one I would have chosen. She thought the RX was too much like the venza we had so she wanted something different. It's fine. It's a nice car. But it is certainly not in the league of lexus - not even remotely. It's a Honda.
