brake shimmy

Hey Guys,

I have 26K on my stock '03' CLS. Lately when using light braking from speed I notice a high frequency shimmy from the front end. I am thinking warped rotors. Anyone else had this problem? Any advice on dealing with the dealer?

Thanks

One of the most common problems with CLS. THere are service bulletins on it. Take it to the dealer. My dealer switched out all pads and rotors at 11k miles on my first 03 CLS I had. so far my 2nd CLS has not had the problem at 12k miles.

I have that porblem a little bit. Just when braking hard from high speeds. I mentioned it (twice) to the dealer and they say that everything looks fine and that the brake wear is normal. I have 34k miles on my car and last time they checked (~31k) they said that I was only about 50% worn in the front and less in the back. Does that sound normal? Seemed okay to me but they didn't really have much to say about the shimmy.

There IS a service report on it. All my parts got repalced for exactly the same thing. Depends on how crappy the dealer is, brakes should not cause shimmy shaking, etc.

Black Magic,

Where are you taking it? Go to Peabody. They have resurfaced mine (26K miles or so) replaced mine (46K or so) and then said "too bad" at 65 when they went again.

Mine are warped and my tranny is dying...If you see a black CLS sitting on the side of the road around town, stop and give me a ride home...

I had my rotors resurfaced and all the pads replaced last week (front and rear). 24K miles on my 6spd.

As part of the scheduled maintenance, the tech found that the rear pads were down to 2mm. Since the dealership (Inskip) knew that the brakes are a issue on the cls they took care of it under warrentee even tho' I hadn't complained about it. You need to find a dealer like this

Inskip hasn't been the best dealer pricewise for maintanence, but they have made every effort to make me happy. They try hard, but sometimes come up a little short (like not washing the car when they say they will, and they forgot to rotate the tires this time).
