You mean the head studs? All you need to do is remove the nuts holding the header manifold to the head. The studs stay in the head, do not strip them!!!!

Sorry, meant new bolts. Stupid things are like $2-3 each at the stealership and you need 10 of them. I assume they should be able to be reused? Car is from TX and has only seen 1 MN winter with 80k miles on it.

I got my XS headers installed a week ago. They are great !!! No resonance what so ever.
My mechanic reused the stock gaskets, used new bolts and rewelded them where they connect to the block.
I dont know if this different from what other people have done, he hand tightened first then bolted them down.

Damn man, get those headers installed already!!!! The flex pipe wrap is not really needed, I did not wrap mine and mine sounds perfect, I think you have done your fair share of research now just pull the trigger and get everything installed ,ahah.

I didnt wrap the flex pipe. You dont need to wrap the flex pipe. The resonace is from poorly installed headers.

hey guys...I have some questions and this is a long as thread otherwise I wouldn't mind reading a couple pages for an answer.

1) What are the oem gasket part numbers. I'm going to use the circle gaskets that come with the headers.

2) What are the bolts that I need to replace...I will buy them from the local auto store...any nuts required?

3) BTW, how much should installation run at a shop such as Meineke or Firestone?

thanks

The welds can crack where the header bolts up to the motor, so he welded over the original welds.
Im pretty sure alot of people have craked xs headers and dont realize it. 2 of my friends cracked, they didnt notice until they removed the headers !!!

Very strange. I ordered mine a couple months ago and they only had the single flex pipe. I'd contact them and see if they changed design or if you got one of those pairs that another eBay company has been selling somehow.

I ordered mine about 3 weeks ago and I've only got one flex pipe. Definately call them.

So has anyone compared the Comptech j-pipe to its XS counterpart?
It seems like there is a big difference, Comptech is just 2.0" throughout, never bigger never smaller. While for the XS headers they offer this summary:

HUGE PRIMARY TUBING FOR MAX POWER !
2.5" COLLECTOR, 2.35" INLET
ALL DIRECT BOLT-ON TO ANY AFTER-MARKET 2.25"-2.5" CAT BACK

Seems like a pretty good difference in size when compared to 2.0" and using "stock gaskets" I swear, sometimes I think the only way the Comptech headers make power is simply by the better designed shorty headers that have a 2.0" outlet and not the 1.75-1.8" outlet stock. Don't remember the outlet size on the stock j-pipe but I think its also 2.0".

I thought the XSPower was pretty much an exact copy of the Comptech and that was the reason they were pulled from eBay?

Not quite, as you can tell they have j-pipe differences that I would like to take advantage of, anyone else have some insight on this? Kind of defeats the purpose of having stock piping diameter of 2.25" when the collector is 2.0"

Bringing this thread back from da dead!

Lot of GREAT stuff here...I want to get some of these headers after I install my suspention and run into some more money! (done doing all the maintence to my car so need a new project) Are these the headers they sell on ebay from 80-100 dollars? Is there a website I can still buy these at cuz one of the site posted in this tread does not work anymore the other place says its sold out , so is there a store or do I gotta go on EBAY?
The ones on ebay dont have a name no ss chrome or xs power headers but they look like them and are priced like them (CHEAP) so I needed to know!
The dealership I work at is going down in a month so I want to get my car fully upgraded b4 they closed cuz I got tools and techs willing to help for some BEER and FOOD! Best way to a techs heart BEER AND FOOD LOL!!

I though bringing this tread back will help the newbies out also with header questions cuz its ALL HERE!!

Most of the info here is on the single flex pipe design. If the headers you are looking at have 2 flex pipes then they are the 2nd and less trusted design.

Those are the new two flex pipe design. They are unproven as far as I know. From the looks of it they wiil not fit 6speeds because they don't seem to have the bend in the manifold.

Those are neither... They aren't the XS power (or SSautochrome) that we've been discussing here in this thread. The XS power header have a single flex connection...

But I remember someone who bought the one in the ebay auction complaining about the dual flex headers... so I think those are bad...

You can't get XS power header at this time:

Yes, it's the weave looking thing. If you can find a set, they will only have the flex pipe near catalytic converter connection. The pics you link to have the second, engine side flex pipe as well.

If you read this thread front to back you will see that some folks had issues with their flex pipe potentially causing excessive resonance. Some folks (myself included) have used exhaust wrap to avoid or resolve this issue. That said, I wouldn't want to add another flex pipe into the equation.

My advice is to throw up a WTB thread in the BM and see if some one had a set in the garage that they never got around to installing. Either that or wait for a part out of one of the seemingly endless supply of participants from the great 2nd gen CL demolition derby of 2009.

So the XS will have the flex pipe (weave look) by the catalytic converter, but will not have the smaller flex pipe (weave ) by the front header connection!

Ok, I don't have the other pipe for them so probably not a good idea to buy them huh?
