Getting my a$$ handed to me and enjoying every bit of it.
It's been an eventful few months with the G, but this last a week and a half has been something else. I've been having a decent run-in with someone every other night and I'm not complaining. .
Disclaimer: All of these runs happened while the road was dead and we would shut down if there was any upcoming traffic. Street racing is bad mmkay, I do not encourage such behavior. All runs were in Mexico. 'Murica.
My car: '12 G37S, 7AT. 100% stock. Just cleared 8,000 miles.
1) G37S (Driver + Passenger) vs 2013-2014 5.0 (6MT. Flowmaster exhaust. Driver only.)
Cliffs: We ran from a 50-roll. He destroyed me, roughly 2 bus lengths on me. G'damn.
I've heard and seen this same 5.0 roll through my block late at night multiple times and it sounds monstrous. He usually passes through to hang out with the guy that has a brand new IS350 down the street from me in the cul-de-sac (another car I'm itching to run haha). Fast forward to a few nights ago and I happen to be pulling out of my driveway and I hear him roaring by. He blips the throttle a little bit as a friendly hello and I roll down my window just enough to throw the peace sign back at him. He slows down as we're still in residential and makes it a point to make a full stop at the stop sign and then do a quick pull from a dig. Obviously he knew that would catch my attention. I take off behind him but let off at 40mph since the limit on that road was 35mph. After a few more minutes we end next to each other at a light and I roll down my window and say "Your Mustang sounds good man, is it stock?" to which he replies "Pretty much. Flowmaster exhaust and that's about it." He revs it a little bit again and I know he's game so I tell him "Hey, you getting on the highway? Let's do a 50-roll." He's game and we get on the highway.
I signal for us to line up once we've got a chunk of open road in front of us and we downshift simultaneously. Unfortunately, I'm a freaking moron and I don't know that best gears to be in for what speeds. I end up getting into 50 in 2nd gear and I honk it off. The moment I hit the third honk he took off like a bat out of hell and I bounced off the limiter like an idiot. It was over before it even started, he slaughtered me. I'm talking at least two bus lengths. Now, I know I wouldn't have won in any case, but maybe if I had known what speed and gears work best for the G I probably wouldn't have gotten beat so bad. I might've been able to close the gap from 2 bus lengths down to 1.75 bus lengths. Hahahaha. Fun stuff.
2) 2012 G37S vs 2014 528i vs 2010+ Modded GTI (Not sure if he was DSG or 6MT, but I know he was modded for sure based on how loud he spooled, how loud his intake and exhaust sounded, and how well he kept up with me. )
Cliffs: 50-55 roll. GTI stayed surprisingly close, finishing only a half-car length behind me. 528i got killed, but that was to be expected.
I was cruising home after visiting some family last night and I notice an orange GTI driving a little aggressively and a 528i trying to pace him. Naturally, I'm interested in seeing what's about to happen and even getting involved if I can. After catching up to them we line up 3-wide at 55mph with a bunch of open freeway in front of us. Yet again I make the same mistake that I made against the 5.0 by starting in 2nd gear at 50-55mph. I hit the traditional 3-honks and right on the 3rd honk a symphony of engines and exhaust notes began to play but unfortunately the bimmer was left behind very, VERY quickly. The GTi stuck right there with me and even pulled slightly ahead for a few seconds before I started reeling him and shut down a half-car length ahead due to upcoming traffic. We gave each other a thumbs-up and went our own ways. The bimmer ended up trying to line up with me again a few miles down the highway but everytime I'd downshift and get ready to honk it off he would just take off. After having that happen three times in a row I decided I was over it. Lol.
3) G37S vs 2010+ GS350
Cliffs: Ran from 85mph to about 145mph, put a bus length or more on him.
This guy decided to run a ricer fly-by on me while getting on the freeway shortly after I ran the bimmer and the GTI(the freeway was clear for miles ahead) and I bit and played cat and mouse with him for a little bit. After a few more seconds I shut down and waited for him to slow down too. I pulled up next to him, this time I was prepared in 4th gear at 85-90mph because I knew he was going to take off again. The moment he hits it, I take off like a hooker in high heels running from a pimp named slick back and I just pull like a freight train. I shut down around 140-145mph, way over a bus length ahead and hit my hazards to let him know it's over. After slowing back down to 75mph I roll down the window and throw out a thumbs up and he guns it to pass me and gives me a thumbs up and a smile back. Cool guy and I finally got to see what the G does on the upper end of the spectrum.
Sorry for all the run on sentences, improper grammar, and incorrect spelling. I'm typing this up while at work so I'm constantly looking over my shoulder.
Hope you guys enjoy the read and sorry making this thread so long!

Get the IS 350 rape on video if you can. Sucks Lexus didn't up the power. The grill is a little funky, but it still needs/deserves 330+ horsepower. The road tests I've seen put it at low 14's @ 98-99.

What constitutes as a "ricer fly by"? I take it the dude simply wanted to get where he was going faster and the moment you saw someone going quick you took it as a challenge?

Usually when some gets in gear right next to me and jumps forward a few times, gets behind me, and then finally passes me at WOT when I'm still maintaining my cruising speed I categorize it as a ricer fly-by. What would be your definition of such a thing?

Have no idea. But usually when you kick some ones butt in a drag race & they keep at WOT to go by you as you are slowing down its a "ricer fly by"
