I went to Island Drag in NW Jersey. It's a pretty good track and you get way more runs here than Etown. Not only that, it's cheaper too and only about 15-20 minutes further from me. I'm not going again until it's a bit cooler though. Probably a couple nice, cool Sept/Oct nights. I'll let you know when I go, probably have Yonkers with me along with some other buddies.

I'll have my intake manifold setup by then and although I won't have my desired tires, I'd like to do a heads up run with Yonkers on the track

Definitely getting new tires; I spin through 1st and 2nd trying to launch. I'll also get a throttle body spacer. It probably won't do much but it's worth a try.

How are you launching that causes this to happen?

Here's a video I made today. If you listen carefully, you'll hear it spin in first then struggle for traction in 2nd. As you can see, It gets moving in 3rd.

And here's another off a 40mph roll. I avoid racing from a dig because of traction issues. Also i don't race in Drive mode, I use the "manual" mode becuase its proven to be much faster from what I've experienced.

I don't really understand why you are loosing traction as bad as you say you are. I probably have 120whp & 130ftlbs more then your car but can run quickly with just a quick chirp off the line to keep from bogging, small chirps & a little side step on the 1-2/2-3 shifts & a chirp on the 3/4 shift with street tires.

Certainly if I just hammer it from the start there would be nothing but tire smoke & axle tramp, but a good launch & a fast time take a bit of finesse in maximizing the available traction by throttle control with an auto.

It's mostly because of the tires. There's also a lot of camber wear since its dialed at -2 out back. I didn't launch it hard in the video; I just went on the gas. If I brake torque to 2.5k rpm it'll spin out through most of 1st.

Think that's the point - if it will spin if you brake torque at 2.5K you either don't brake torque or go to a lower RPM. The are a few G35's running at Fayetteville & Rockingham with Turbos or N2O running low 12's with high teen traps getting off the line without a lot of drama. The G35 has a lot of potential, its just a case of staying within the cars traction envelope.

You will always be faster/quicker if you maintain traction.

When I had stock runflats that meant a 2nd gear start no matter what because I am generating near 400ft lbs under 2K. I just put enough load on the car to get both the turbos spinning up. With 265/30/19 Conti DW summer tires I can use 1st if I am careful but 2nd is still easier to manage. The car has launch control but I found it quicker not to use it.

OP, I think you should run against BostonSilverTypeS and his 5AT. NY isn't that far from here and we've been scheming on a NY/Boston meeting anyways
^this....I am always down for a run if you around New England area or if we get this Boston/NY meet

On a side night my experiences has been pleasant and this was before exhaust and tune....just had SRI/PCD and Jpipe I walked away from 2 G35's both we auto coupes.. not sure on years...one had exhaust/intake/and chipped......did 2 40mph rolls and pulled hard till 110mph...I had a good 2cars on him (I was shocked at this result but to his defense he had some heavy 19's deep dish)...I had 1 passenger

the other G35 coupe also auto....had exhaust and some gauges (maybe for looks) cuz when we took off from 50mph to 130mph I was buses ahead......IDK did this twice with same results.....maybe some garbage G35's and or drivers

I ran one 350z with full exhaust and intake 6mt and he pulled on me had car n half on me till 120+......I had 2 passengers with me and a trunk full of luggage!!!

this....even with my tune after 110mph goodbye if the race is close I am done!! only if I pulled 2cars or so on early on while in 2nd gear then I have a change of being in front still till about 130+ .....only good thing is 4th gear is not needed at the 1/4 mile dragstrip

yes the difference is that big of a difference for Ex. a 6mt TL-S is prolly .5 sec faster than a 5at TL-S.......and if you were going into triple digits then yes I can see why you pulled bus lenghts as you should have cuz 5at TL-S gearing is no good for top end!! unfortunately

I'm not sleeping on it but stock for stock and I would even wager mod for mod, the VQ is the better motor.

Unless you are talking about the slowest G35 vs. the fastest TL/TL-S in stock for, it isn't going to be a race. Stock G's go high 13's @ 100+ with a good driver, the TL/TL-S is good for what? Mid-High 14's @ 96-98 stock? No hate whatsoever, just reality.

Some TL's might be able to compete, but certainly not even close to "spanking" a G35.

Stock TL 6MT is good for 14.2-14.6 @97-98. There was 1 or 2 99s, but that's a bit on the odd side. I'm still waiting for someone to dip their stock TL/Accord into the 13s with DRs.

If you search back a few years timeslips were posted for a TL 6MT at 13.99. Was backed up with other runs. Not sure if it was pure stock but it was not an "S"

^ I believe that was "Type S 09." He had a CAI/UR pulley and on different tires. He ran a 13.9x @99.9. Definitely a great run.

I ran with a completely Stock I mean bone stock TL-S 5at member on here (RubyRed) at Epping and I believe he had passenger with him an ran a 14.2 at 98mph...not sure if passenger was in car or not, but needless to say 14.2 out of a 5at TL-S is impressive especially at uphill Epping track....So on the street anything is possible when running with a G35....IMHO it is a drivers race really when it comes to the streets with stock for stock or lightly modded TL-S/G35's.....I said lightly as I know once G35's start going into some more full bolt-on parts and what not become much faster than the TL's but again I can only speak from what I have seen and went up against.......

On a side note everytime I do go to the track all those G35 owners need some serious Driver mod, cuz they post some horrendous times lol

It's true, I go by what I see with my own two eyes as well, but the issue is that not everyone can drive their car to it's 100% capabilities, like you said there have been some pretty horrendous G drivers that you have seen at the track.

I think that stock for stock, there is no question the G35 is the faster of the two, not saying a TL can't win, but you would likely be taking the fastest stock TL and putting it up a against a mediocore G35. On the average, the G is going to go faster, but that's not to say anything can't happen on the street.

A TL most certainly won't SPANK a G35 though, especially modded.

true indeed yonkers.....but I will say this though if you put a automatic G35 as in OP case versus a 6mt TL-S then yes I will say it will SPANK a G35....but then again same thing could be said vise versa so in the end its all going to be different.....Never really going to be the same result in hearing stories about TL's versus G35/350z's ....

I've never gone to Island dragway but my son has. He also enjoyed that fact that he could do MANY runs unlike Etown. BTW: He's now gone from the Alti 3.5SE to a B15 Sentra SE-R Spec VQ35DE to an 04 350Z 6MT convertible.

^ Nice pull man. I thought the gears were longer, did they change them for the 2010+? I saw a vid on Youtube of a coupe, I believe 08, and 2nd went to 70mph while 3rd went to ~100. Your gears are almost like the RSX Type S; shifting into 4th before 90 and 5th at ~110. Damn. I don't shift to 5th until 130 (with my current tire setup).

OK, I'll have him hit you up. As far as that Sentra goes, he wanted cheap speed at all costs.....and that cost was reliability. The thing was the biggest POS that ever graced my driveway....and includes my beat up 97 Prelude!

^ this.

They're both "quick" cars - neither one is fast and neither one "crushes" or "blows past" or "decimates" the other.

6mt vs 6mt with minor bolt-ons, we're talking about a difference of a couple-few tenths of a second which, when you're talking high 13's/low 14's, is not really a big deal in terms of gap between the cars. Total driver race at that point.

I'm bolted on pretty solid in my TL (PnP is the only thing I still want to do) and I went up against a 6mt g37 with exhaust work a week ago but the kid was younger and slow to shift. Going from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th I caught up dead even with him on each shift.

I do love racing against them because I never know what the outcome will be

The G37 Sedan, especially with the 7AT is in a wholly different class than the Type-S. It will walk all over any TL, mod for mod. It's a 5 second flat 0-60 car with a ~105 mph trap. I can see putting the G35 in the same class as the TL, but the 37 Sedan is a stretch. I don't know why, but the Coupe is markedly slower.

^ That video is of a full bolt on/tuned/4.08 geared 6MT sedan. I forgot about that Erick....my gearing question has been answered ha. To be honest it looks similar to my car in 3rd, but definitely a little quicker from 90-110. I know this car would pull me though even though the speedo looks similar.

New G37 is coming next Spring and rumor has it a turbo may be in the cards. I've never been a huge fan of the G, but I saw a silver G37 sedan a few weeks ago and it looked pretty good to me. Looks like they changed the front end a little? Things could get interesting over at the Infiniti Camp. If they do go turbo, I can see 335 sales plummeting: same big horsepower gains for minimal cash paired with a lower sticker and Japanese reliability.

I can see putting the G35 in the same class as the TL, but the 37 Sedan is a stretch. I don't know why, but the Coupe is markedly slower.
This would be correct!
