Unhappy Transmission Dropped! or was it something else...

Well A friend and I were driving about 5-6 Mph through a parking lot about to make a right hand turn while the car was still going straight i was slowing down to make my turn and then.... A DROP SOUND/DRAGGING SCREECH! car stopped moving and i imidiatley put my foot on the break and put the car into park.. well at least tried.. car would not go into park put into neutral and pulled e-brake.

Got out thinking i ran something over and its stuck under my car.

not the case, underbody of the car was untouched and nothing seemed different.

I got back into the car and i guess between me getting out of the car then back in it let me put it into park.. waiting a minute while I'm freaking out cause I'm in the middle of a busy parking lot and started the car again..

car started kinda rough with a lower then usual RPM. put car into drive and car wouldn't move at all revving up to about 3000 rpms still nothing, same with reverse, lower gear and into manual mode.. car still sounds like chains and belts are not "catching" and making a wind up noise, almost like the transmission i would say.

tow truck came and said hmm, I'm thinking its your axle!... how could something like that break. would it make the car not move? not even a little?

even idling car doesn't sound right. had it towed to montclair acura because i have an extended warranty on the car and hopefully will have answer/solution to this issue tomorrow.

in the mean time has anyone heard of this problem or had similar issues. Im still thinking transmission since my year tranny was recalled (04) and saying to my self must of just went..

please help i need some reassurance i didn't do anything here

I'm not expert but I believe it is the axle.

Like the first 2 posters said, its your axle (well im pretty sure it is from your description). At least yours didnt f up your fender & bumper like mine did. Your extended warranty should take care of it.

Shouldn't be more than a couple hours in labor. I believe one member paid around 500 bucks for parts and labor at the dealer.

Its not a hard job really.

Do it yourself. Takes an hour with Jack stands and simple tools.

well today i get a call from my dealer saying that my warranty company a place called "WHEELZ" wants to come and look at what happened to see if its a real claim or if its from an accident.. so whatever i figured they would come out and take a look today. I call acura my self later on seeing if anyone came by he said no and he's never heard of a warranty company coming out for something as simple as this its just weird were his exact words.

I call the warranty company my self they said you have a "cv boot problem or something with the axle" i go yea i guess he goes well if the CV boot is torn it won't be covered.....

cv boot? hmm how can i possibly tare that driving 5 miles an hour or even begin to do something like that my self when i Just drive lol......

anyone deal with an issue like this or heard of this place wheels? cause from what i read there nothing but a scam. great. -_-

they usually don't tear all at once this happens over time and the rip/tear grows allowing dirt and grime to build up into the CV joint and it gets to a point with no lubrication that they finally fail.

unfortunately 95% of all extended warranties are a scam. The only good ones are provided through the dealers and even alot of times those are a joke.

on side note axle's are really easy to replace yourself even with minimal mechanical ability. I just looked them up at autozone and they are 59 dollars per side. so its not expensive at all. If you want high quality axle's with a lifetime warranty i'd check out raxles there more expensive but well worth the cost.

You mentioned you made a rt. turn while going slowly, your axle may have pulled out & disengaged from the transaxle, I've seen this happen before.

I was going to say $3000? Ouch. 2K is better.

Don't beat yourself up over buying an extended warranty. I did it through Acura for both my cars just bought in July. I got a deal as a good customer but it was still $1100 a piece.

It almost makes one wish that stuff will break so it's fixed for free and you can justify the warranty expense. Unfortunately you and I drive very reliable cars. But you never know. For every one of us with a warranty collecting dust, there are two others crying in the waiting room with a big repair bill on their lap.

Good luck.
