Throttle body gets dirty easily, what to replace?

My throttle body get dirty fast and I'm pretty sure I can feel the shotty performance of my 05 TL because of it. I can clean the throttle body myself but what can I replace to keep it clean longer?

Is it the wide black hose that is connected with a silver clamp? if so, what is the name of those parts and where can I find them?

You guys are great! Holler at me..

a catch can will help collect a lot of the oil and stuff that is passed through the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system. It feeds exhaust straight back into the intake for emmissions purposes.

Look into the heat soak thread and it may help you get all the performance out of your TL, I doubt a dirty TB would be that noticeable.

ummmm, i'm pretty sure that little soot you're wiping off with a cloth isnt impeding air flow that much to where you can actually feel a performance loss.

Man, you would be surprised. It started stuttering when I was at red lights and when I accelerated, it felt like it was about to give out.

Took it to my buddy who is a car genius and we wiped all the soot from inside the flap (which was a tremendous amount) and she ran solid again. that black hose you speak of was loose and I am trying to replace it

it's cracked. you're loosing power because its cracked, not because of the soot.

it would take a FULL BLOCKAGE of the throttle body to impede air flow.

is #6 what you need?

And while you're at it, try sticking with a top tier gas from now on, toptiergas.com, Top Tier Gasoline.
Those brands have detergents in them that help keep all that stuff clean. Shell V-Power works best.

According to me! I get superior throttle response when using Shell V-Power versus any other brand of premium. Have you tried it?

All i put in it is Costco supreme which is listed on toptiers.com. I don't know what the hell to do. I'm getting the shittiest gas mileage ever. I use to get around 350 miles to the tank, now I am lucky if I can even reach 300..

When was the last time you changed your air filter, pcv valve, or cleaned the throttle body?

I second DMZ with his findings on Shell V power.

I have the same conclusions after using all forms of different gas brands. Shell V power is the best!

jroca, It could be your valve adjustment. Bad MPG is one of the signs.

Careful, don't open the flap by hand, it might screw up the calibration on the throttle position sensor.

I agree with others, your problem is the cracked hose, not a dirty TB.

Unless you have an inch thick layer of junk on your TB, it really isn't going to matter much. Especially for fuel economy. Just about nobody cleans the TB and its fine.

You're driving in identical conditions, with the same route, ambient temp, tires, vehicle loading, the whole deal? 50 miles a tank isn't really that big of a dropoff. You're still in the 20 something MPG ballpark. That IS what the window sticker suggested. I get single digit MPG's some days, yet under closer to ideal conditions I can get 40's no problem. Conditions matter, A LOT. This is the case for every vehicle on the road. It usually does not indicate a mechanical problem.
