AIRBAG light-on how to get dtc???

hey guy iam in a little bit of trouble. i own a 2005 acura tl and the airbag light came on for no reason. i have tried clearing it with the mes connector located near the fuse kick panel but but no dice. so their is a problem. i don't have access to a pgm tester and its out of warranty. i know with my rl their was a way to have the dash lights blank to give you a code. does the tl offer the same function? plz someone help this is driving me nuts.

I finally gave up and had my TL fixed at the dealer yesterday. It had an SRS DTC, but for the life of me, no ODBII style diagnostic computer would pick up the codes. It would just show no codes found. It must utilize a different code storage system/protocol.

...So it ended up being a faulty front right side impact sensor. Code 42-11. $156 total. $50 for the sensor, Diagnostic $62, and labor to remove right side fender well lining.

Perhaps it's the seat sensor under (or in) the passenger seat. Sit in it and see if it goes off. If not, then that's the problem.

What ever happened to this? I have the same problem. My OBd ii said the same thing. No codes.

I used to be able to clear a light on my old Subaru by disconnecting the battery.

I have been ignoring the light. If I can't fix it myself, I might make an appointment to have the tranny fluid changed and badger them about the srs code while it's there.

SRS system requires a 'special' reader, OBDII won't pick up those codes.

11 CODES!

Post them up for our interest.. otherwise just search google for OBDII codes / DTC, or search the actual code.

^ ah.. SRS codes.. I didn't pay attn to which thread I was addressing.. I know for sure 10-1 means airbag deployment.. so I would definitely say this is an electrical problem. I'll repost when I find the culprit & solution to your issue.

Okay..
10-1 - Airbag Deployment
51-20 - SRS Unit failure
61-10 - Open in driver's seat belt buckle switch
92-11 - Internal failure of SRS unit
e1-11 - ?
e3-11 - ?
e4-11 - Front Psgr's side airbag does not deploy by OPDS operation
f1-11 - Driver's airbag & seat belt tensioner deployed
f3-11 - Driver's side airbag & sealt belt tensioner & side curtain airbag deployed
f4-11 - Front Psgr side airbag & sealt belt tensioner & side curtain airbag deployed

Basically either you have a bad battery (most probable), bad SRS unit (possible), or you wrecked your TL / bought a salvaged TL that never had the codes cleared (only you could answer that one). If it is the SRS unit, then it will be easy to swap out, center console needs to be removed though. If you are on your original battery.. buy a better battery and take a core deposit on your old one ore sell it; it'll save you dead battery woes down the line, but make sure you clear the codes once the new battery is installed.

My TL was diagnosed 61-10 code, it will be replaced under a lifetime warranty on the faulty part. They ordered the part.

I called the Acura customer service number in my owners manual and they told me only the belt material had a longer warranty than the standard. My 2005 is out of warranty. I wonder why the variance?

Maybe I should call again?

ok so i fixed my srs light issue.. it was giving me code 61-10 driver side seat belt buckle. so i did some diagnosis and i found the buckle to be the problem. so i called dealer to get the part and they told me that it was in back order. so it took like 3 weeks to get the buckle. i finally got it on tuesday. installed it and now it's good! : ) hope this helps for some of you.

Now that it's cold out my light doesn't come on until the car warms up. Where is the seat belt sensors? I was going to see if there was a connection that needed cleaned and greased.

Thanks!

well the only way to know that it's the seat belt buckle is don't buckle up when you start up your car. wait for the airbag to go out and then buckle your seat belt. and if the problem is the buckle then the light will illuminate and stay illuminated. hope this helps.. that's a way to know without a scanner.

Great, getting intermitten airbag light too. New thing to troubleshoot, yay!

I recently hardwired my Valentine1, I routed down the side airbag area on the A pillar, hooked up my power to an empty fuse hole next to the ACC fuse. Maybe just coincidence.

Any new ideas on this?

Ok...in reading in Google and self troubleshooting, I noticed that the airbag light was on pretty constantly now. On then off for a second, then back on. I also noticed when I unbuckled my seatbelt while driving, the seatbelt light did not come on. So I strapped it in and undid it a few times till it consisently came on when undone...then turned car off then back on and what do you know. Airbag light turned off permanently.

Gotta love the interwebz. At leat now I know it's something with my seatbelt sensor.

Hey man...if it works...lol.
I don't know...but I read somewhere that it could be seatbelt sensor related. And the fact that the sensor didn't recognize that I unstrapped while rolling I found weird. As I did it more and more it finally did start to recognize it and the airbag light stayed off. We'll see!

I hope it's not a reoccurring issue like your wheels. If it works.. don't fix it I guess..

Holy lord, me either. I'm going to check that out today, hopefully I can figure it out.
From what I gather, the only reason to be concerned with the airbag light is when it's on, the system is disabled. So by making sure the seatbelt sensor is picking up that I'm strapped in, it reenables the system and it's fine.

If I had a penny for every time I broke something while trying to make it better and thought of that line...

I also have an 05 auto that has the airbag light on. I took it to the dealer on Monday and crossed my fingers that they would be honest with me. The rep came back and said it was the seat buckle and it was covered under a lifetime warranty. They ordered the part and even washed my TL before they gave it back to me. Just take it to Acura as it is probably the same in your case. You don't want to mess around with anyone else because this is your SRS system and you need it to work properly and have all codes cleared the right way so the entire system doesn't shut down.

Thanks man, yeah, hopefully that'll be it. After jiggling the seatbelt it seems like it worked, didn't come back on all day.
When the light is off, the system should work just fine. I'm NOT ok with driving with the warning light on knowing it won't deploy!

How many wires are connected on the seatbelt buckle? Wonder if a resistor could be placed in line with some of the wires to omit the freakin seatbelt reminder. Yes I know it's illegal not to wear a seatbelt and I ALWAYS wear it, but I do a lot of runnin around in my subdivision, and it get's VERY annoying.

I believe there is a recall for the driver seatbelt sensor that the dealer will replace at no cost

I have no idea but would LOVE to find out...I have narrowed it down though...mine comes on every few days and I just unplug and replug in the seatbelt a few times and next time I turn car on, light goes off. I wonder if it's the sensor I HEAR clicking in the B pillar when I put on my seatbelt.

i dont think its you restraint. it your actual seat belt that receives your buckle. it has a sensor inside which goes bad
