I think it depends on what is worth more for you, the added growl your engine will get, the suppression of negative air pressure in the intake system, or the look? I do not think the CAI will give you a boost in performance where if you raced the exact same TL as yours minus the CAI, you'd win hands down, although you might sound quite a bit more aggressive than him.

For sound yes. Performance gain, I doubt it.

Define "worth". Problem is, its definition in different applications is highly subjective. This car tends to cost ~ $100 per horsepower (on average) gained if you're staying N/A. If a CAI costs $250 and shows 2.5 whp, it's right on par. It's the sum total of multiple mods that show true results. If you simply want more induction noise, and nothing else, the CAI alone may be worth the cost. Just don't expect your car to be measurably faster after installing one.

Not worth the money if you want just the growl. You can get sections of aluminum pipe, silicone bends and a filter for the fraction of the cost.

If looks is all you are after, then maybe....

Production cold air intake systems have more R&D behind them than just slapping together some sections of pipe and a filter. They are often designed to maintain proper A/F ratios, provide 5-10 horsepower, and fit without have to cut or weld.

Our XLR8 AEM V2 features great power gains and fitment.

Yes.

I have an '06 and installed the K&N Typhoon.

Dyno chart claims 6.81 HP increase.

I like the looks, noise, and feel it added a little pep.

better gains for $/HP like the J-pipe and such, but the sound of an intake is always worth the money.

Does the intake add more sound or just give off a better tone/pitch?

Dude if you are looking for sound, then just delete your intake resonator (google search DIY intake resonator removal). An intake at this stage is nothing more than a noise maker. If you want sound and looks then just get the intake of your choice; its your money. There are tons of CAI threads that could help you too, but you have to read them. I am not sure why is this the most difficult choice for most people. Don't take it the wrong way, I am just being blunt.

spending $$$ CAI drove in the rain and all the sudden Boom flooded the engine, I wonder if aftermarket CAI is so good then why manufacture like BMW, Audi, Mercedes put it in their M, AMG and S model? OP you spend $400 for an intake which probably returning a 5-7 hp increase not a very noticeable gain. Most tunner shop agree that it take a 10% gain in power before you can notice on the butt dyno.

Manufacturers do design and implement CAI's, but they need to worry about warranty and noise, so they have to be careful where they route the piping and place the inlet, and use resonators. Even our stock TL's have a factory CAI.

I know, right, using the analogy above, why replace any stock part with aftermarket performance parts.

I'm sick of the Google for info and engineers designed the car, so all must be good.

Well, engineers also design aftermarket components, including exhaust.

Gains are modest but if you plan to do other mods, you'll have all the airflow you need.
