Weatherstrip/seal air leak at freeway speeds
Hey guys,
I have a minor, but annoying, air/wind leak at freeway speeds on my driver side door. The picture below shows the general area where I hear the noise. I am wondering if anyone has ever tackled a similar issue before?
I was planning to just replace the weatherstrip but then realized there are three possible culprits that cost anywhere from $40-90 each plus shipping, anyone know which of these is most likely to be the case of the air leak? TIA.
Window seal (part #12)
Door sub-seal (part #10)
Body/door seal (part #3)

You should try adjusting the door first. Just loosen the hinge one a a time and walk the door in.
There are 4 bolts, 2 for each hinge. Ref center pic above #13. Door side only not the car side.
Loosen only one hinge completely at a time (3 of the 4 bolts). Do not loosen any #12 bolts.
So basically loosen the top three #13 bolts and push the door inwards and then tighten the top only. Not too tight cause you want the door to pivot on that last still tight bolt (1 of 4).
Next loosen the lowest bolt and push the bottom of the door inwards. Then tighten the same lowest bolt (top/bottom are tight and center bolts are loose).
Now close the door and check the fit. If it's still good and not too far in then cinch down all the bolts and take it for a test drive.
BTW... if any of the #13 bolts are pegged then you will need to change all the bolts or just the pegged ones. Pegged as in no slop/play between the bolt and hinge. By changing them you will gain some adjustment if indeed the bolts are pegged.
Tip
Mark the #13 bolt heads (very top and lowest - 2 of the 4 bolts) to the hinge for reference. That way you can see how much you've moved if any.
