Watch the f out!

I saw this:

AND THE END RESULT:

Approximately 8:50AM 4/30 I was driving on the Vanwick expressway and noticed to late a huge uplifting in the ground.

I hit it and that was the end.

I broke my engine pipe, y pipe, cracked the oil pan, bent the rear cat. Car is still being inspected for more damage. Avoid this uplifiting on the Vanwyck bt. exit 1 and 2

Are you lowered at all? Because from that pic it doesn't seem that high to me. I was just on the van wyck too, I guess they're re-doing again after only 1 year smh.

I was going over the smaller bumps without much trouble, I'm on stock suspension 3G TL with 18x8.5 Aspecs.

It is that Natural Male Enhancement tossed out of car on manholes.
Lower at your own risk or buy one of those low things at your own risk.
There ought to be a law on how low you can go as well as how high a city can go ...

it doesnt matter if he's dropped or not i had the same exact thing happen to me on the jfk expressway.
the contracting company working on the highway must make the bumps safe for ALL cars including corvettes, ferraris, lambos, ricers....

his car is no lower then a porche or a vette so they will pay out their asses!

yes i agree the manhole looks low in pictures. Now when you drive over there...everyone will swerve from it. It is bigger than it looks and higher

I would agree, but the city might fight it because he is lowered and altered the vehicles height. Hope all is well and yes, you never know what happened internally.

Because the law is designed to help and protect people at the same time. The city has such power because they have the law behind them and will do anything not to pay someone their money and if they do, it will take weeks. Owe them money, well then you have a deadline to pay and if not they take action..

Anyway, they may fight it because the hole maybe bigger then usual, but since you altered the vehicles height, they may not be responsible (even if its not as low as other stock vehicles). This is the same way that if you bring your car to the track, no insurance will cover any accident and your driving at your own risk. This is also the same situation that cleared out tail lights on our cars are illegal, but some trucks like the mercury mountaineer have them stock and its because the car is altered to compensate its loss. The corvettes maybe lower, but their bodies aren't designed as ours. Our pipes actually sit lower then the subframe because its meant to ride at stock height.

Greco, they will look at the car and probably measure it. In this case your right he doesn't have a civic and that would trick the normal person into thinking its stock, but get that one person that knows cars and your screwed.

With all that said above, that pot hole is HUGE so there may not be a fight in this case. I would fight it also because some will see that and swerve and cause an accident, so fight for "everyone", but in the same sense it will get yours fixed and the pot hole fixed.

last march i was driving through the midtown tunnel into the city, one of the divider cones was in the middle of the lane, i had no choice to but it run it over, it damaged my bumper, MTA paid for the damage, plus my vehicle was a lot lower. they didnt even look at the car, only thing they wanted was a body shop estimate, then they did their estimate by using the body shops report

Hey guys, because the roads are so bad in the try state area I changed my driving habits. Anywhere in the trystate I drive at 55 mph not any faster. Driving this slow and in the middle lane gives me a few seconds to react to some of the potholes or as i call them
craters. Sometimes I even drive at 50 mph, makes me look like I'm driving Ms Daysi, but anything to keep her in good condition.

Ok first off let me say that if your headlights are lower then 22" off the ground to the center of the light then your low bottom line in the eyes of the city. Been there and dealt with it trust me. Secondly the pic is not a pothole but a mound of the existing asphalt around the sewer cap. They never rip that up until the day they pave the road. As for your claim have fun trying to get it cause I had my claim in from 2010 and was basically told "f- you, you ain't getting squat". It'll take a year of going back and forth with the city and the end result will be to sue them in small claims court. Trust me I know. I just gave up on mine because it's time consuming for me right now to deal with it. Blaze sorry to sayyougotit up the ass without lube on this one. The only thing that'll help you is if you make your police report, find out whose doing the work on the roadway, and take pictures of the sides of the roadway to show that there is no signs telling drivers about the rough road and sewer caps and the bill of all the repairs to your car. Go onto the city comptrollers website and fill out the form for damages and send in all of that stuff registered receipt so they can't say they never got it. Make copies of it all for yourself as well. That'll be your only chance

Could he get his insurance company involved; they pay for the repairs, he pays a deductible (if he has one) and his insurance ultimately goes after NYC?

You have to think of it this way. What's in it for the insurance company if they do the fighting. It'll cost them more then just giving him the money to repair his car. It'll cost them that and lawyers fees and in the end there's no money made for them. They'll only get what they spent and to them time is money just like it is for everyone else.

Geeez.. that's crazy. That manhole doesn't look that tall in pics, but I'm sure it's different in real life.

Good luck with dealing with the city, hopefully they'll pay for the damages. I love living in the city but driving in the city sucks!

bro sorry to hear about that, your best bet was to ride out in the left lane its the safest! I myself pissed on myself when I started to see those shits sticking out from the ground, yo bro Jamaica ave by 198ST is the WORST!!!!

now more than ever my eyes has been glued to to road or on the wheels of the car in front of mines, just to see where the road crapps out at, it sure helps!

Yeah those roads are insane over there. Drive under the bruckner and your car will be toast!

Insurance fixed my entire bottom end.

I went to the comptroller office...took alot of pictures and got my receipt.

I think the Van Wyck has already been repaved. It's really smooth now.. amazing how the city just paved the road LAST year and can do it again within a year. While the BQE/Gowanus has been under construction and pothole covered FOREVER.

I'm pretty certain it's mob related with the contractors.. no way can they be doing contruction every other night and weekend without ANY progress whatsoever on the BQE.
