Transmission Shot. In Essex Cty NJ need recomendations

So, original trans went. Had it at dealer a couple of weeks ago to change trans fluid and check out noise, which they said was coming from torque converter. Said it was a matter of time and that time was today. Deciding whether to fix. Anyone have recommendations on cost and where to do the work?

Assumptions, you have a 2004-2006 TL with an automatic transmission.

Assuming the above assumptions are correct, the next question is, how long would you like to continue owning the car? If you say, "a year or two", just get the cheapest tranny deal and go with it. If you say you want to hold on to the car for a number of years, your best bet is to find a transmission from a 2006-2007 Honda Accord V6 (AV6 for short), and put that tranny in your car. The AV6 is basically an upgraded, but plug compatible tranny for your car.

Yes its a 2005 TL. Check engine light came on during my drive. Started to get hesitation and slipping. Then lost certain gears. Then came back and was a hell of a ride back from NYC to home. Did not want to be the a**hole who was blocking traffic to the bridge. There were times when engine just revved and no connection to wheels. Turn car off wait a few seconds and turn back on and I could feel it grab and with little throttle.

A rebuild will cost you from $1500 and upwards which includes labour and fluids. When they rebuild the transmission make sure they use upgraded components.

If you can find a great price on an Accord V6 transmission, go that route and find someone who will install it. Should work out to the same price as a rebuild.
Check car-part.com for prices on used accord transmissions. I've seen them from 700-1400$ for the transmission on there depending mileage and condition.

Check out the NY regional forum on Acurazine. There's a vendor that is a mechanic - his name is Paul and his s/n is something like acrdr. Look for his thread and contact info.

So, isn't this same Accord trans the replacement for 2nd gen TL's? Is this the ideal replacement for both generations (2nd & 3rd)?

The 2006-2007 AV6 can be used to upgrade the second gen TLs as well as the 2004-2006 third gen TLs.

Is there a thread etc about this anywhere? I see everything for 2nd gen as well as Havenergarage's site that explains the process for 2nd gen TL: and what parts need to be swapped from TL trans to 2006-2007 AV6. Just want to make sure no mods needed or anything special to make it fit in an 05 (3rd gen).

Paul has done the 2nd gen to AV6. Not a 3rd gen to AV6 so checking.

Yes, there is a thread around here, in fact, if I recall correctly, it was just updated last week; that said, the title of the thread isn't as obvious as the thread in the 2nd Gen thread. That said, I'm pretty sure the main thread in the 2nd Gen area has lots of folks with 3rd gen cars who've chimed in.

Well I just picked up my 05 TL and drove it about 15 miles in the snow/rain, but so far all seems good.
