Tints In NY

The factory tint on most cars is in the 85-88% range (not 25%) but the end result is still the same - virtually any tint will make your car illegal in NY.
thats retarded though because i seen dt's and westchester county cops with tints pitch black all around and they drive with them if anything it should be illegal its not like there superior then anyone
Psh says who? With 35%'s theres a "less chance" a cop will bother you. But if they're bored and desperate enough they will still be able to give you a ticket. I myself have 35% and its happened to me before. Dude even broke out the tint meter on 35% and it read 35% still got a ticket.
70% tint is what the windows come with when you buy a new car from the dealer. In other words ANY tint at all is illegal

Yeah bored cops are the worst. I've been pulled over about 3 or 4 times over the past 2.5 years in my TL due to non-tint related offenses. I didn't even roll my windows down most of the time. Cops never said anything about the tint. Guess I'm just really, really lucky. No tickets either, only warnings
But I've also never been pulled over by NYPD so that might have something to do with it?

No, in NYC, 70% is the safe zone. So anything below that percentage is illegal according to the NY Vehicle & Traffic Rules & Regulations. On a Sport Utility Vehicle - SUV, the rear tints are alright but not for 4-door sedans after 1992...

Quite simply, 75% is visible from outside the car with the windows up. The "tint" on our cars is virtually invisible unless you roll down the window half way - closer to the 85%
Different cars have different measurements but since some states have a "no tint" requirement, most manufacturers will do the least amount of tint but still achieve the required UV protection.
