The NY/NJ Pothole Thread!!

Ok so I figured I'd start a new pothole thread since all this damn snow is making the plows rip up the streets now and to better help out members here to watch out where they drive. Just post the location of the pothole and maybe the severity of damge it can cause. It also can help out to post what lane and what side of the lane if on a highway and also the direction (N,S,E,W).

Location: Triboro Bridge Toll Plaza E-Z Pass lanes
Direction: Bronx bound from Queens
Severity: Rim Ending potholes plus possible suspension damage.
Brief Description: Right when you're about to enter the plaza there's a plethora of potholes to navigate thru. You almost have to zig-zag your way around til the toll booths. Plus the genuises that work ther thought it would be smart to put the black rubber bases from the orange poles in some of them so cars won't hit them hard.

^^ Damn it's off that much!! Last year I blew out a tire and dented my aspec chrome rim in a crater filled with water on the BQE right before Nothern Blvd headed towards BK. Now I gotta take the city to court cause they basically made me waste a year of phone calls just trying to get reimbursed.

Go on to the city comptroller's office website everything is there to file a claim. Make sure you have your receipts and pics of the current pothole before they fix it. I took pics but now the city is saying they "can't find" who did the work before the hole came about. The funny thing is I know who did the work on the highway. Be prepared for a long process. they expect people to forget about it that's how they get over on people. Just stick with it. You have a year and 90 days from the date of incident to file a small claims court suit. Go thru the city first then do the court thing it'll just help your side more.

Ooo boy, I'm going to have fun with this thread.

When the snow clears a little and I get back on the road, I'm going to takes pictures of the many holes around the neighborhood. I can think of 10 severe ones off the top of my head.

Brief Description: The right lane leading up to the LIE exit is pockmarked but there was 1 big one that i hit driving at around 50 mph. thankfully there wasn't any damage. If i were you, i'd stay in the middle lane until you are about 20ft from the ramp instead of riding the right lane.

Any hole that swallows up a car can no longer be considered a pot hole. I think they should be called road craters. This is by far and away the worst winter I can remember for all of the roads that are being destroyed. What's worse is that the townships and counties are very poor and aren't fixing the craters, even on the major highways (Route 287 as an example).

Man this thread is kinda point less. It would be a great thread if we lived in a place where potholes were rare but NYC is far from this. Hard to be driving on the highway and think back to this thread and say pothole coming up LOL. I actually try remembering them to post them up but by the time I register one I've dodged a dozen more. These streets are horrible and we can only hope there's money to repair them

This is my car's thoughts on the subject

I think we can all agree that nyc streets are screwed up to begin with. And most us already know exactly where certain potholes are but with all this snow and salt due to these storms more are popping up. So to an extent the point of the thread is to point out those new potholes. Maybe where you spotted one is some else's daily route and they didn't realize it was there.

Location: Bronx River Parkway-northbound at the begining by Story Ave
Direction: Northbound
Severity: Not too bad if you go slow but can blow a tire if you hit it fast.
Brief Description: Not really potholes but cracks going across the roadway that are opening up.

It's actually when you come off the Bruckner to go on the BRP northbound right after the curved entrance. On the overpass. The expansion joints opened up and are getting deeper and wider in all three lanes.

I would imagine you would have to contact your city's comptroller's office just like for NYC.

Some of the ones out there right now should not even be called pot holes. They are legit holes in the earth.

Damn ish!! Yeah you definitely need to get the city to replace that for you. It's gonna be a long fight but stick it through. Make a police report and take pics of location before they fix it cause they are gonna give you the run-around.

But on another note are those Donz rims? I heard horror stories about them splitting apart. My boy has 20s on his tl and he hit a pothole and the center of the rim broke off from the barrel and came right off the car.
