I dont think my car has #2. If I put it into the manual gate, it doesnt upshift by itself (or at least I dont think so)

 

dunno, check it out. I remember my TL going 1-2 on it's own and then 3-5 I would have to shift for my self.

 

in RL, #3 will stay in 1st gear unless you shift.

 

Leo, that's customary for most cars. No confusion on my end. Regular "D" is slow, shifts for economy.

Sports Mode (just moving it over) shifts automatically, but with a more aggressive pattern.

Once you move the lever down or up, it changes to sports manual, where it will hold the gear until you shift automatically (or hit the redline, at least in my dad's car, to prevent overrevving)

 

yea, I agree, except it works differently on TL vs RL.

The TL in sports shifts 1-2 automatically. in RL it keeps in 1st until you shift for your self, or it can work full auto in S mode as well until you touch the paddles.

 

The 07 tl holds the gear and doesn't do the 1-2 shift. The paddles are just a redundant thing on my car and only work when I switch the lever to the left. They are basically a substitute to shifting with the lever
