Good shop for serious work?

Well, I need a timing belt job, axles, radiator and probably some bushings. I checked with Honda(Mahwah) today and they charge 105/hr, want 899 for the timing belt and 350 a pop for axles. btw, Acura also charges the same 105/hr.

I want the car repaired by someone who really knows what they're doing, but 899 seems a bit steep... I could be wrong, but can anyone recommend a reputable shop in the rockland/north jersey area?

I'll pay Honda their ransom if need be, but I haven't been in the area long, so I'd like to know if I'm getting screwed.

Not sure where Suffern is...but tl2slow (member here) lives at Fort Dix in Jersey. He does some good work and am guessing can do everything you want, and would prob charge WAY less than any dealer.

Fort Dix is pretty far from Suffern! Have you tried Park Ave. Acura just south of Paramus on Rt 17 or Open Road Acura in Wayne? I'm sure they can give you the price of a timing belt change over the phone. From that you can judge how good their prices are.

Also, the Good Year dealer diagonally across the street from Mahwah Honda does excellent work. I've taken my cars there for many many years. They've replace both my axles when I had my '97 Maxima at more than half the cost of Nissan. Their mechanics really know their stuff too. All my cars, once out of warranty, goes there for any and every thing.

From the outside you would think they only know tires. They are always packed with work. I would not hesitate to bring my TL there for a timing belt change though that would be a while from now since it only has 10k.

yeah fort dix is way too far. I haven't tried park avenue acura but Mahwah honda owns ramsey acura and they have the same labor rates and they're so close I could walk to either one.

So if I'm going to pay 105 anyway, I'd go to acura, I'll check out park avenue acura rates. I'll also check out that good year.

thank you
