Master Calendar - Event Details - Hornet Car & Bike Show
The Engineering and Computer Science Alumni Chapter will hold its annual Hornet Car & Bike Show, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, June 26, in Parking Lot 8 at Sacramento State.
The show, first held in 2009, is a fundraiser for student clubs, with residual funds allocated toward future scholarship through the ECS Alumni Chapter, says Michael Bell, the chapter’s treasurer and event chair. He adds that the idea for the event was spawned by a need for funds to travel to the Society of Automotive Engineers competition, in which students design, build and race a small, Formula-style race car against entries from other universities.
The ECS Alumni Chapter is running the event this year after the Hornet Racing Club spearheaded the first two. Bell says this allows the racing club to better focus its energy on the competition. “It’s easier on them and us to just host the event,” Bell says.
The show will feature music and door prizes that can be won by entering a raffle. Bell says details on prize vendors are not finalized, but the main prize will be an iPad 2. Admission and parking are free for spectators; barbecue and beverages will be available for purchase.
Attendees who make a donation will have the chance to meet with prospective customers. All donations and gifts to the ECS Alumni Chapter, a nonprofit, are tax-deductible. Residual funds will go toward scholarships.
“It would be a great way for people to network and advertise their companies, especially if they’re local companies,” Bell says. “It’s also a means for them to advertise their desire to help out with fundraising for student clubs and scholarships.”
Registration is $15 for entrants and is payable upon entry. Judging begins at noon.
