Just started getting into modding my 3G TL!

Hi all, I've had my 05 TL for about a year and a half, and I've loved every second of driving it. Unfortunately for my bank account, I also realized how much fun it is to work on it and mod it after installed the CAI that DC Sports offers. Sounds great (although admittedly not as much roar as the AEM V2) and was pretty easy to install. I haven't done as much fun stuff as I would've liked, since my battery, starter, and alternator all went out within a year, but I'm hoping to get started on that soon. This forum has already been a blessing to me in finding parts and advice for mods, so thanks for that! Hoping to learn a lot and have fun seeing how far I can reasonably take my TL!

James

So do you feel a difference in the throttle response, and a gain in HP??

no, it takes about 30hp to feel in a 3500lb car.
mostly what OP did was just for sound. but it's very understandable as OP is a very young guy with not a lot of disposable income (not a knock, I was once there.)
takes a lot of money to make the TL fast.

thought you could gain about 30 hp in a TL with an AEM CAI, and an aftermarket exhaust like OBX/ Tsudo??

I’m not looking for my type S to be super fast, but would like it to be over 300hp and sounds good if I need to be somewhat fast if you know what I’m getting at..

I spent maybe $5-7k on bolt ons and suspension and my car is no where near 300 Wheel horsepower...yes, if you measure at the crank it's over 300hp...but crank hp is not what your car is putting down to the wheels. Crank is not what you measure against other cars...

my car is about 240-250 wheel horsepower at around 3250-3350lbs with the 6MT gearing..which means its quicker than most TL's, including type-s'. But I aint foolin myself. it takes major money and time to make this platform fast.

Sorry for the late response! Like @justnspace pointed out, it takes a lot to feel this car get fast. I installed the CAI because 1) I was just getting into modding and 2) I realized that my OEM intake tube had a rip in it near the manifold. Definitely gonna go the bolt-on route, then the suspension/handling route, since I'll definitely be able to feel that. But yes, I am very young, and I'm working my ass off to get disposable income for life in general!
