Hello from Houston TX

Hello ladies and gentlemen! My name is Israel. I purchased a, full of character, 2004 Acura TL on Thursday. I am new to "imported" cars but I do have experience with "american" engines. I'm currently building a 94 Camaro with my son for his 16th birthday, but I decided to get a project car for myself. When I was 19 I owned a 92 civic and loved how fun that little car was so when my cousin told me he was selling his 04 Acura TL I jumped all over that. I bought the car for 800 dollars and it needed a new immobilizer and key reprogramming (some one had tried to steal the car). With that fixed I needed new tires as the car shook like crazy when running over 30mph, so naturally I put a used set of 18" konig torch wheels wrapped in Dunlop sport maxx tires. Its currently at the auto glass place to put a new windshield so I can get the car inspected and registered. The car has ALOT of character, it has dings and dents all over the place but it just adds to the story... This week I will be researching and buying coilovers for it. I have been reading the posts in the suspension page and its between the tein and megan racing as far as coil overs go. After the suspension i will go after a brake upgrade. Next, I will go after the engine, as of now, the plan is to either turbo or supercharge the car after an engine top end rebuild/upgrade and of course a header back exhaust system. Ill go to after the body and looks at the end, I'm thinking about keeping the body and interior stock'ish. From what I have been reading, this place is a great source of information. Thanks in advance for yall's help.

Welcome and congrats! Looking forward to hearing about (and hopefully seeing some pics of?) your build. I have a feeling I'll learn a lot about the platform from following along.

What color?

what up, H-tinnnnnnnne checkin in!

your plans sound good! except, we do not have headers available for the car, as the heads are cast into the block..
we just had a H-tinnnne meet at Bubba's burger shack underneath 59 and westpark, On saturday night!

do you have a shop for the turbo project?!?! the engine runs pretty high compression and either needs to be dropped lower, or build an exhaust dump off the turbo that creates lots of pressure. keep that exhaust pressure in check and you wont blow the engine. also, since yours is a 2004, YOU WILL HAVE a hard time tuning that motherfucker ....
it will go

yes, I have been reading the forums and it sounds like there just isnt much out there for these cars... so now i have been going back and forth between just building the engine up and leaving it at that... lol, Also, an ls swap has been kicked around with my buddies! hahahaha, no jk, but seriously we have been thinking of dropping inn a more tunable engine in it but i feel like it would loose its "acura" feel... as of now suspension and brakes is what i will focus on, ill just keep reading, learning and maybe a decision comes out of that... Sucks i missed the meet!

that's a no go either. change transmission, change engine, add a rear end....etc...too much money, and would completely not resemble the acura any longer

since it is a project, maybe you could strip it of the interior and everything else. Lose like 300-400lbs and then SHE would be a rocket ship
curb weight is 3400lbs...she's a heavy bitch!

I have a 6MT 2006 TL.
a little bit quicker than the auto...but I get destroyed by more modern v6's....im lookin at you stupid camry's
i'm thinking about throwing some nitrous at it and would whoop the shit out of some modern v8s, or at least surprise them

well the plan for the engine swap, was to try to use an lz9 engine with the accompanying f40 tranny from gm, which is all front wheel drive... but i dont like that idea... although cool! i just dont think it would be fun any more, stressing about all of that. I wanna keep the build fun and effective, Im looking for like 320/340 hp tops. The car is heavy!!! but it can still move!! haha ask me how i know!! we were thinking of removing everything from the front seats back to the trunk... I would still like to road trip it to meets and stuff, it would be like a guy with a mullet... business in the front fun in the back... haha! Dude those modern v8's are hard to beat... even with my LT1.

The CT super charger will get you to 300 horses....... But for $5k... Not worth it, in my opinion.
only a 40-60hp gain.
this platform is super hard to go fast.

We used to have Texas meets, where San antone, Austin, Dallas and htown all met up. But I guess life happens and we haven't had a big ass meet in like 4 years

At the recent bubba's burger meet, some one brought a cts-v pushing like 750hp. That was cool to see and hear
