Hi, I'm in Portland, OR. I was gifted a 1999 Acura TL with 150,000. I discovered through this forum the issues with these transmissions. Hopefully I can keep this thing running. Just did a 3x3 ATF change with Valvoline Maxlife and lubeguard. That definitely helped. At least I got a '99 with the 4 speed and not a 2000 or another year with the 5. This forum has been a great help so far so I thought I'd introduce myself.

Nice gift! My 2008 MDX has the original transmission in it (a 5 speed) and I have also had 1 and soon to have 2nd fluid replacement. So far no problems except for a check engine light that comes on when the fuel level hits just below a half tank. It is for the charcoal canister.

 

Hey Ben, great car. Keep the transmission serviced, try to refrain from smoking the tires, and red-lining it, and it should serve you well. Not certain if the four speed auto, utilizes the (External Transmission Filter), like the five speed auto does, but if so, it may be a good idea, to change that as well.
