Car barely recognizes key, Ignition switch problem??

Car is 2001 Acura CL. When I put the key in sometimes the car beeps and recognizes that there's a key in and I can turn the accessories on. When I turn the key to ignition it immediately dies and no longer does anything when I take the key out and try and turn the accessories back on or try and start again. And generally when I put the key in it usually just does nothing at all as I turn the key.

This comes after replacing the alternator and battery, drove a few blocks as the alternator failed. Not sure what could've fried. Wondering if I should replace the ignition switch or just try and get the key reprogrammed or is there something else I could be missing?

Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
