Talladega - Carl Edwards crash vid

Did anyone see this yesterday? Amazing that he walked away from this. Word is eight fans were injured though.

I had just finished setting up my tv and was checking to make sure the high def signal was ok. Turned on the race just in time to catch this and holy shit what a crash!

I saw that, and all I can say is thank God for the catch fence.
If that wasn't as strong as it was there would have been alot of dead fans.

And Stunna, it was his fault (or his spotters) the other driver was just trying to win, he went up the track to block, the guy got below him and when he tried to come back down the other driver was already overlapping his car.
But it was a perfectly executed pit maneuver at 200mph.

Yeah saw this and had to laugh at the commentator who said "nothing went into the stands" and you could clearly see shit flying into the stands.

I saw that as well. But at least the whole car didn't go in.

It seems like in NASCAR, if you can't pass someone, you just have to bump them out of the way.

Heard on the radio, a lady got a broken jaw along with cuts on her face. NO CHARGE FOR THAT.

she was probably so wasted she didn't even feel it. I don't think i've ever been to a race without seeing more people than i can count totally fit shaced

all day drinking FTL

As I said, it wasn't the other drivers fault. It was Edwards or his spotters fault.

The only NASCAR race I ever consider watching is the Brickyard just because it's close to where I live. Nothing about driving around in an oval is very exciting at all. I think most people that aren't afraid to go fast could pick up driving a nascar with some practice the skill level just seems stupidly low.

I do like watching wreck highlights though and I'll wager that's what most fans are there to see.

So for comparison, what form of racing does require a "high level of skill" in your book? F1? Multi-time F1 winners Montoya and Villeneuve have really ran away and dominated NASCAR. It's just a different set skills. If you don't like watching it, fine. But I definitely wouldn't consider it easy.

Caught the last big wreck and this one... pretty crazy.

On a related note, I'll be attending my first race in a few weeks. All-Star race at Lowe's. Should be fun...

G Bodine's truck crash into the catch fence at Daytona a few years back was worse; totally shredded his truck:

When they refered to debris not getting into the crowd, I think they were premature and probably meant big peices - like a tire & wheel.

Well, niether actually. Edwards seemed for the most part unijured; he jogged across the finish line.

Bodine had a long recovery, but came back to race. Not sure if he is still racing today or not.

According to Wikipedia Bodine had a concussion, a broken wrist, a broken cheek bone, a broken ankle, and a broken vertebra. He missed less than half that season and actually finished 3rd in the Daytona 500 two years later.

I live about an hour and a half from the track in NH, and have never been...and never will go unless someone were to give me a ticket and a ride, then I MIGHT think about it.

However, there is something to be said for the super speedways. I've been to the Daytona 500 and it was pretty damn cool

[QUOTE=#1 Stunna;10824725] this is the only reason to watch nascar...

So, you enjoy and hope for people to crash and get killed or, as seen from this race, innocent people getting hurt too? Why don't you drive down to Missouri, you and I will have a race, and I will turn your ass and hope you hit the wall doing 130. I WOULD ENJOY THAT! You idiot.

Hey moron, oh, I mean Myron nobody said you had to watch it.

[QUOTE=Josh99CL;10826801]I think most people that aren't afraid to go fast could pick up driving a nascar with some practice the skill level just seems stupidly low.

You think it's easy? Since you've never been you have no idea how difficult it is. I did the Richard Petty Driving experience last November and went about 145 around the track with me and the instructor only and it was intense. Most of all, you cannot move whatsoever and feel claustophobic. Go do a ride along at the Richard Petty Experience and you tell me how anyone could pick up the skill.

You people that don't like NASCAR have no idea what it's all about. I just got back from Talladega today and there is so much more than going in circles. It is almost a science to win these races with the adjustments they do to these cars to make them so fast. We took a couple of guys with us that have never gone before and they couldn't believe the passion and dedication the fans have for this sport.

Sorry for the rant but people with these type of comments piss me off and think that all it's about is going in circles when it's about the experience.

Hey moron, oh, I mean Myron nobody said you had to watch it.
was I talking to you in my previous post? No I was stating my opinion as you are doing right now. You can think that nascar racing is the gratest shit in the world for all I care, to me it's boring. Watching a car go in a circle for 500 laps is not my way of entertaining myself. If you like it more power to you.
oh and I like the little word thing you did there with the moron/myron reference hahaha and you are calling me a moron GTFO haha

i have been watching races since the early 80's and let me tell you , some of these races are boring as hell. I am an avid fan, but you would never know. I don't have a flag outside the house or anything like that. There are certain races like dayton aor talladega that i will watch the 1st 10-20 laps until they spread out and hte last 20 laps to see everyone get antsy.

i will listen to it on the radio or have speedtv on in the garage when i am out there. I Think i ttakes a lot skill and money to be able to compete and these days are much different than even 15 years ago.

The cars are much easier to drive and also much safer.

I have only been to a dozen or so races plus indy and imsa camel gtp, busch, and a couple others that i can't even remember.

Thank god that no one was killed. It has been a very long time, and i hope it will be much longer.
