While getting a post prepped for another forum I did some numbers and it became clear how poor JB's performance has been in the last 7 race weekends, particularly in qualy.


Out of the last 7 races RB has out qualified Jenson with an AVERAGE of 5 grid spots and in the races they both made it to the first pit stop Reuben's averaged carrying MORE fuel. When 2 people have essentially the same F1 car (it was built around Jenson remember) and both have over 100 GP starts and one beats the other 6 out of 7 times in qualy by an average of 5 grid spots and averaging more fuel while doing it, that my friend is a freakin' smack down. Jens maybe couldda, wouldda, shouldda in the past but say what you will but he ain't getting it done now.

No, I am not a Jenson fan but it seems to me (contract not withstanding) Honda should axe JB and bring in some new talent for Reubens to help develop. It is clear Honda isn't going to be running around with #1 and #2 on the car noses anytime soon and maybe they should sow some seed to reap later instead of wasting more fertilizer on a crop that has wilted in the sun.

they're both tied at 16 points each so it could be said that Rubens has thrown away his quali advantage or that he drove even and Jens was the one who optimized his position on the grid from starting.

Don't think that works considering I was talking about the 7 races since Reubens' got the Honda set up to his liking, in those 7 races RB has gotten 14 points to Jenson's 3. In this case almost 5 times the points in the time period! Of the seven races JB has only scored points once. I think no matter how you look at it Jen's is getting a smack down applied to him and I don't think it is going to change.

Now one could make the argument that in the races they were classified at the end Jenson gained more positions from qualy to the race compared to Reubens but would you rather your driver gain positions in the race but garner 3 points in 7 races or drop positions in the race relative to qualy and end up with 14 points in those 7 races? Plus, it is easier to gain positions when averaging 11th on the grid than it is 6th.

Jenson's been sitting in his Honda for years, while Ruben is new to the stable. If they both tied at 16 points each, I can only say Jenson is not as good as the new boy.

Isn't it funny how impressions change. At the beginning of the year there was a lot of talk about how Michael wasn't as good as people thought because Jens was making Rubens look worse than he did at Ferrari. Now the talk is to axe Jens and let Rubens have the first chair...

Both Jens and Rubens are mid-pack drivers at best and always will be. They are a #2 at a top team or a #1 for a middler. Which sadly is what Honda is this year.

And we will have an F1 next year with no Montoya or Villeneuve.

After Button's win today in Turkey ... has your opinion changed now? I still think Rubens is a more consistent driver (good #2 man) but Button has greater potential. Maybe this potential has finally come through today. Or maybe he lucked out by picking intermediate rain tyres instead of full rain tyres.
