BMW M8, bad ass
BMW is returning to Le Mans, and it’s doing so with a racing version of the new 8 Series coupe. More specifically, the M Division’s M8 version. And this is it.
We’ve had glimpses of the M8 GTE in testing before, but never so short on disguise. As well as showing us what the race car will look like, it also gives us a good look at the road-going M8, too.
We suspect its arches won’t be as wide, nor its aero as wild. But there’s a hint of the aggression we can expect over the svelte 8 Series coupe. Power for both road and race car is likely to come from a turbocharged V8 engine, sounding a bit like this…
The M8 GTE’s latest test has taken place at Daytona in the US, and it was official race testing ahead of January’s 24 Hours of Daytona, too. So the M8 was amongst its future competitors on track, on the circuit where it will make its motorsport debut in little over a month. Exciting.

Alonso experienced a bit of a squeeze on his proverbial lug nuts.
"The biggest thing, so far, is the seatbelts," Alonso said. "You know, the one that goes between our legs. It uh, needs to be longer. So, uh, yeah, that was the biggest challenge that we need to figure out."

Good exhaust noises. Didn't expect them to sound so deep and throaty ....

Only about 45 min. into the race and Nando's dropped 3 places (started in 13th, currently running 16th)....

Went for a run. Came back and see that Nando's dragged the #23 Ligier up the field, and now his co-driver Hanson is running in P10 overall.

Looking good for Cadillac, but still a long way to go.
Mazda's fortune is not improving with Joest.

Well, the race ended up to be quite uneventful in the second half.

It was a good race. Too bad the Penske Acuras hit trouble, but they were competitive.

Saw Mansell win there driving for Newman Haas in a CART race and Davy Jones win in a Jag XJR14 too. Usually don't get the benefit of seeing my favorite driver win when I travel that far.

The paint jobs on some of these cars are striking in the sun! The NSX, the Lexus, Mazda P car, the MBZ's and the BMW's made for a great show yesterday in practice sessions. The next ones I post will be from my iPhone.

My friends, Scott and Eliot Forbes Robinson with Scott's Cayman at the International Motor Racing Research Center. They co-drive this car in events. Scott said yesterday he inadvertently wore a blue shirt with an orange tie after I remarked how well he coordinated with his car.

JPM (nice guy!) First thing he did after podium ceremony was to go over to a young wheelchair-bound man who was literally bouncing up and down with joy. It was awesome to see.
With Jan Magnussen, K-Mag's father and a driver I've always admired from the old days.Made the podium!
