what, are we in grade school? (re: 'playing fair') Horner is equal to the task versus Toto when it comes to running to the RD.
Max just needs to suck it up and overcome it, which he's more than capable of doing. Not to mention, LH is drawing towards the end of his F1 career after which Max will clearly be in the catbird seat...for years to come.
As far as the best driver goes, it's so subjective that I refuse to even entertain that debate. I'll just watch/read the back and forth.

^ agree, that Bernie comment I totally disagree with. Both Toto and Christian both run to RD in qualifying or race. The whole Max pushing competitor's off the track has worn thin with me.
Meanwhile, I can only imagine how many calls from Jean Todt and/or Ross Brawn have been happening to Horner and Wolff the past few days.

Max has been in the sport 7 years, he's not really a kid anymore in terms of experience. Bernie was also the one saying, "I'm surprised Lewis didn't retire at the beginning of this year, that he didn't want to win more races or titles than Michael".
Man should worry about being in his 90's more than F1.

That was pretty good. Poor Yuki, or just leads a private life.

With MB/RBR/McL/Fer usually at the front, I'm not surprised those 8 aren't in the running for most overtakes.

RE: MV Crashes LH out to take the WDC. Saw an article earlier today (and not finding now) that the FIA has mentioned deducting points for deliberate actions to take an opposing driver out.
I'm assuming this would be up to DQ the whole team, if say Perez took LH out instead of MV.

I get that Kimi is a legend and it makes total sense for Alfa to have that decal on the car. However, with Giovinazzi also leaving the team, it's kind of awkward unless there is also a corresponding decal on Giovinazzi's car. "Good luck in F-E!"

That ending was a fraud ending, to let the lapped cars pass the safety car on lap 57 was not fair.
No one's fault, but I hate SC endings.

It was Massi's fault. He needs to go.

Could also blame Nicholas Latifi for the oversteer slide into the wall, but damn Lewis had control of the race until that point.
I'm just pissed off, also annoyed Toto and Christian are talking to Massi during the safety car since both calls were not safety related.

Max Verstappen beats Lewis Hamilton to win 2021 Formula 1 title on bizarre last-lap r

This is what'd bad about 2022 F1 inconsistent officiating
This is what'd bad about 2022 F1 inconsistent officiating
The most bizarre thing about the final laps were the officiating decisions from F1. Officials were adamant that the lapped cars between Hamilton and Verstappen would not be allowed to clear themselves on the restart. That would have provided a buffer for Hamilton to likely win a record-breaking eighth championship and cement his status as the best Formula 1 driver of all-time.
But after saying one thing, officials changed their minds and said that the handful of cars between Verstappen and Hamilton could pass Hamilton and get their laps back right before the race restarted. However, not every lapped car was allowed to pass. Only those that were between Hamilton and Verstappen got to get their laps back. And the decision to only let some lapped cars pass but not all appears to be a direct breach of F1 rules.
F1 rules do not guarantee that lapped drivers can get their laps back during a safety car, but it's an odd decision to allow some drivers to get their laps back and not others.

Why was Max afforded the lapped cars between him & Lewis to get out of the way, but no one else? Sainz could've easily lost 3rd to Yuki.
Terrible, terrible officiating. This is going to be a tainted championship for years to come.

It was quite a good race but the end really did not sit well with me either. of course there has to be some controversy to cap off the season.
I also don't agree with turn 6 on lap 1 for LH though and again RB strategy helped close the gap significantly.

Crazy ending to a crazy season. I also don't agree with how things were handled between LG and MV in lap 1. There is no doubt that LH and MB had the better car today (and for the past couple of races), but some luck (good or bad depending on how you look at it and who you were rooting for) and some really odd officiating gives MV the 2021 title. Congrats to him, but not sure how it all settles with me.
I know it's part of the strategy but also didn't agree with leaving LH out so long on that one set of tires. I know it would have given up track position but again, they had the faster car today..........
IMHO - there should be limited or no ability for the teams to talk with Massi or whomever the RD during the race.
Lots to think about and plenty of discussion points.

I think the difference between LH and MV on the podium after losing the last two races speaks volumes on their character. MV left immediately and was such a sore loser. At least LH kept his composure and stayed classy.

Mercedes is protesting:
The second protest has already been dismissed. The first one though...I think Mercedes has a good case. Whether the FIA hears it or not is a whole different thing.
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/a...Q5S70O1cY.html
Within 30 minutes of the race ending, Mercedes launched two protests. One was “against the classification established at the end of the Competition, alleged breach of Article 48.12 of the 2021 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.”
That rule reads: “If the clerk of the course considers it safe to do so, and the message ‘LAPPED CARS MAY NOW OVERTAKE’ has been sent to all Competitors via the official messaging system, any cars that have been lapped by the leader will be required to pass the cars on the lead lap and the Safety Car. “This will only apply to cars that were lapped at the time they crossed the Line at the end of the lap during which they crossed the first Safety Car line for the second time after the Safety Car was deployed. “Having overtaken the cars on the lead lap and the Safety Car these cars should then proceed around the track at an appropriate speed, without overtaking, and make every effort to take up position at the back of the line of cars behind the Safety Car. “Whilst they are overtaking, and in order to ensure this may be carried out safely, the cars on the lead lap must always stay on the racing line unless deviating from it is unavoidable. “Unless the clerk of the course considers the presence of the Safety Car is still necessary, once the last lapped car has passed the leader the Safety Car will return to the pits at the end of the following lap. “If the clerk of the course considers track conditions are unsuitable for overtaking the message ‘OVERTAKING WILL NOT BE PERMITTED’ will be sent to all Competitors via the official messaging system.”

The second protest is regarding alleged breach of Article 48.8 of the Sporting Regulations. This rule says “no driver may overtake another car on the track, including the Safety Car, until he passes the Line (see Article 5.3) for the first time after the safety car has returned to the pits.”

Christian Horner promises Nicholas Latifi ‘a lifetime supply of Red Bull’ after crash
The real reason Latiffi crashed 5 laps before the end.

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...-b1974623.html
“He’ll be getting a lifetime supply of Red Bull for sure,” Horner said to Channel 4 when asked about Latifi.
“We needed something from the racing gods in the last 10 laps,” he added on Sky Sports.
“Thank you Nicholas Latifi for that safety car. I have to say with the stewards…they did great to get the race going again.
“We were screaming at him (Masi) ‘let them race’. It has been an insane competition and for Max to win the world championship – it is not just about here.
“I have to say all credit to Lewis, he has been a phenomenal opponent all year, he is a great champion and that is what makes it even more valid to win this.”

What a fantastic last race. Best one in years. Nothing makes me happier than seeing Wolff blowing his head and whining like a baby.
