More Rosberg 's fault it seems
Futzing with wheel controls and then reacted too late to Hamilton's inside move is mostly what caused that chain of events imo
I don't know about fully Nico's fault but a healthy portion of it definitely was. OTOH, there was no way Hamilton was going to get through there and make the Repsol turn at that rate of speed. Hamilton was fully committed as was Nico at that point and the crash looked inevitable. I'd say more 50/50
Hamilton added: “First of all, a huge apology to all of our team - when I stopped my heart just sank. To not deliver for them, it’s honestly… indescribable how gutted I was.
“I got a good start but he [Rosberg] slipstreamed me into Turn 1. Then through Turn 3 he had a d-rate - basically he made a mistake and started in the wrong engine setting. We only have one setting for maximum power and he wasn’t in it, which meant he was like 180bhp down.
“I’m not getting into blame, just a huge apology to the team. I’ll do everything I can to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Don’t have a good feeling this second, but we will recover.”
Hamilton’s retirement means he drops to third in the drivers’ championship, four points behind Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen and 43 behind leader Rosberg.
The stewards’ statement in full:
The incident concerned started when Car 6 dropped into an incorrect power mode, as set by the driver prior to the start. This created a significant power differential between Car 6 and Car 44 at the exit of Turn 3 coming onto the straight, resulting in as much as a 17kph speed difference between the two cars on the straight. Car 6 moved to the right to defend his position, as is his right under Art 27.7 of the Sporting regulations. Simultaneously Car 44 as the significantly faster car with, at that time, apparent space on the inside, moved to make the pass. Art 27.7 requires the leading driver to leave room, if there is a "significant portion" of the car attempting to pass alongside. Car 44 had a portion of his front wing inside Car 6 small fractions of a second prior to Car 44 having to leave the right side of the track to avoid an initial collision, which may have led him to believe he had the right to space on the right. Once on the grass on the side of the track Car 44 was no longer in control of the situation.
Having heard extensively from both drivers and from the team, the Stewards determined that Car 6 had the right to make the maneuver that he did and that Car 44’s attempt to overtake was reasonable, and that the convergence of events led neither driver to be wholly or predominantly at fault, and therefore take no further action.
I'm going to say it's 60/40 Hamilton's fault. Also, his reaction right after the accident when he covers his face in his hands is almost like he knew he over did it.
Biggest of the race must be Ricciardo and Vettel's strategists. Obviously if they didn't go for that extra stop, they might have been the winner. But that's why you have two cars and try two different strategies. But they obviously got the short end of the stick this time.
Finally, I must admit I was wrong about Verstappen. I thought he wouldn't but it, but wow, great effort all week.
After watching that video and listening to Wold, Lauda, even Prost. It was joint responsibility for the accident, or as Prost said with a shrug "a racing incident".

Well, you'd think the track that gets tested on the most would render the teams with a wealth of tire deg knowledge right? I agree F-C, they brought Ricciardo in first obviously planning a 3 stopper; Vettel had to cover. Their destiny was set then and there. Personally I thought that was one helluva race, right to the end. Usually Spain is just a high speed procession but having 3 tires to choose from gives the teams all kinds of choices. It's too bad the teams have to start on the tire they qualify on. In the old days there was no such rule.

That was pretty much my reaction as he drove across the line. All I could muster was "wow". I realize that both Mercs being out of the game may have factored into it, but still. That was something special.
Plus, it's hard to ignore that he'd been in that cockpit for what, maybe 10 hours total?
I'm excited to see what he can do in the coming races.
I temper my enthusiasm for him by recalling his optimistic pass attempt on Grosjean in Monaco last year at Ste. Devote (had a bird's eye view for that one!)

I agree. Not being a party pooper since he did great all week. But everything kind of fell into place for him. Merc took each other out. Ricciardo and Vettel both chose the wrong strategy. The RB chassis was obviously very suited for the Barcelona track.
Let's see how he reacts when things go wrong. Any more tantrums and yelling at the team? We shall see.
A little late but WOOOOOW! Go Max!!! So stoked. I've been watching him since karting & he's a future (dare i say multiple) world champion for sure. What a performance.
As far as the 'incident', I think that he had the pace to win the race anyways so just chillax a little - you'll get him in the end! But he went for it right away and as Chief F1 fan said - there's a very good chance that he wouldn't have made that turn at that speed. Needless to say the commentators & my friends over disagreed with me. I also called the fact that no further action was warranted. The fact is Lewis should've let off & waited a little (like a turn or two more).
At the end of the day it was a fantastic outcome for Formula1 with a historic result & WE all win due to the fact that it's great for the championship for the 2 leading cars to go out & tighten the championship just a little bit.
The only reason JV thinks it was Nico's fault is because unlike his move over on Schumacher in Austria putting MS out of the race worked in JV's favor.
dickhead.

I would dismiss this BS as just that, BS. Above all, MBZ wants to win the Constructor's Championship. Having a rookie in their car at the most prestigious event of the year in front of every big name poobah sponsor of the team would be catastrophic to the team's ability to 1) magnify their chances of getting maximum points, and, 2). increase sponsorship levels. There is no god damn way they're going to put Pascal in Lewis' seat to punish the latter.

Except that the Mercedes is so dominant, even a rookie could probably win the championship.
Let the wild speculation begin.
Violating team rules
Broken hand by punching someone
Lawsuits
Arrest for something
My guess if this is true is that he suffered some kind of injury. Otherwise why avoid the test?
I would like to see Rosberg win the championship this year. I think it would be great for Formula1 in general to have a different winner (albeit in the same dominant chassis but hey!).
