where are you seats Phil? On a corner where there's going to be some passing?

I really hope there will be passing too! We are row 26 (upper section) of Turn 12. My hope was that being high up we can see turn 12 and also the esses on the other side of the track. I'm not sure how the elevation will be, so maybe I wasted our money a little...
I wanted turn 15 (further up the hill, better overview), but they were premium seats, they offered to upgrade me for a fee, but the only option that I saw was to purchase additional tickets up there, instead of trading in my turn 12 tickets and paying the difference.

I'm just going to buy a cheap, pocket size camera. I'd be shocked if they didn't let me carry it in. I won't be wasting my phone battery on pictures and video. Something tells me that I'll be needing it for communication throughout the day.

I was thinking something on the lines of a modest-quality/better-quality DSLR and maybe a couple of memory cards.

Well I grew up 60miles east of Montreal so I sorts know the area

I'm thinking of just bringing the camera, if they complain I'll bring it back to the car.
The only problem is that my battery won't make it a whole day. Oh well...

Btw any advice you have (what to bring and so on) would be great. I have been to over races like petit lemans or Tampa Grand Prix, but access wasn't as restricted and crazy as an F1 race.
The standard sun protection, rain protection (if forecast), and ear plugs might be a good idea. Oh, and lots of cash/plastic to pay for shit like food and team gear (if you want any).

Look for stuff like Bud Light Zones etc. If it's anything like Montreal, it means hot chicks, somewhat cold (shitty) beer, music, and possibly a sweet ass air conditioned transparent bubble. I'm sure remembers that area.

yeah good advice West. I'd bring a good camera, not some POS in. I can't imagine they wouldn't want you to bring a camera in at all. Those padded camp chairs that have a back are helpful too, esp. if the grandstand doesn't have anything more than a bleacher seat.

Phil, Turn 12 looks like you'll be in a prime spot for some action. My brother is going, he will be in the Pirelli suite

Yep thanks for the advice, we'll check the weather in advance and go from there.

That's a good idea about those little camp chairs, I'll run it by the crew I'm going with.
Your bro seems to have a nice dig for the race, congrats to him!

To the Austin race? Sadly no, I have too much else to spend money on right now to have considered going. I wouldn't rule it out for next year possibly, but who knows. I'd love to hit two races in the same year though.

Just say you really need a beer, and be discrete.

one last word about those camp chair things: they provide a line of demarcation in a crowded grandstand so people don't try and squeeze you out of your spot and they keep peoples' feet off your back.

I showed the wife what you wrote regarding the seats, she's sold we'll stop by some Bass ProShop / Dicks Sporting Goods when we get to Texas to get some. Thanks for the advice!
