Rules for the 2024 Acurazine Formula One Fantasy League:

Rules:

1. For each race weekend, you must post one Driver and one Team as your picks for the event. The Driver you pick does not have to be from the Team that you also pick for the event. Selection for each race must be posted in the event’s thread prior to qualifying. "Prior to qualifying" means the official start of qualifying posted by the FIA in the calendar prior to the race weekend. This deadline will not shift in the event of delays caused during the race weekend, such as weather related delays.

1.a In the event that the race has a sprint race component, the deadline for submitting picks will be prior to the sprint race qualifying, not prior to the sprint race itself.

2. You can only choose the same driver 4 times for the entire season. You can only choose the same team 5 times for the entire season.

3. Points calculation will be as follows: Drivers picked for the event will receive points as classified by the FIA after the race results are confirmed. Teams picked for the event will receive 1/2 points as classified by the FIA after the race results are confirmed.

3.a In the event that the race finishes prematurely and the FIA issues partial points, we will still award full points for the purpose of this competition.

3.b If no points are issued by the FIA for a race, we will not award points as well. In which case, the competitors’ picks for that race will not count toward the four pick limit for drivers, and four pick limit for constructors.

3.c In the event that the FIA makes post race penalties, the statue of limitations is 2 weeks from the end of the event or prior to the start of practice of the subsequent race, whichever comes first.

3.d No points will be awarded for the fastest lap.

3.e No points will be awarded for the outcomes of the sprint races.

4. Whoever has the highest points total at the end of the season will be declared the Acurazine Formula 1 Fantasy League Champion. Winning the championship has no value, and will not improve your Points, Reputation score, or bank account. Disputes to the game are not subject to arbitration or mediation.

Red Bull = Red Bull, RBR

RB = VCARB, Racing Bulls, RB


Making a clear distinction so no one gets angry by mistyping RB vs RBR.

I already see the confusion now... I think we need to find another way to distinguish the two..


I don't know if this is necessary personally, I vote to keep it at 4 so we give the other teams/drivers a chance too. I mean I don't mind 5x Max points but I think keeping it at 4 might make things more interesting.

 

I'll keep this poll going until the week prior to the first race, or until there is a clear consensus.

Any chance we want to start implementing some type of dropbox or google form so folks can put in there picks (there can be perhaps be a dropdown to pick team and driver so you don't have to do the analysis every week?

I mean.. I might be able to draft up a rudimentary form that can make your life easier. Might then be able to plug in points after the race and the spreadsheet can generate the points total afterwards as well.

I don't want to step on your toes at all though if you're okay with the process as is, just ideating!

Mostly just to keep my own track on pick limits
Not sure how easily it could be modified to cover multiple users' entries, plus F-C's handy graphs.

 

5 driver and team picks, there's 23 races, we had 4 each when the schedule was much less.

EDIT: 18 in 2008 first year; 5 more races 2024

 

Just covering the top 4 teams, that gives 32 picks, with 4 driver picks.
But, would only cover 16 team picks and most definitely result in a lot of team pick 0s toward the end of the season

I hold a 4 driver / 5 team for my vote.

 

Also, a reminder that the Bahrain & Saudi races are on Saturday [Ramadan, I believe], with FP on Thursday & Quali on Friday. So make sure you time your picks right to not miss out.

Well, the biggest drawback with a form is that we won't see who voted what. We like making fun of other's misfortune.

 

You're right.. but also at the end of the season, we have certain folks that like to use that transparency to their advantage

Would be cool if there was logic built in to remove teams/drivers when those limits are reached. But to F-Cs point, there's some excitement with posting in the thread for all to see.

 

A rule change for picks won't negatively affect anything if the poll is not concluded until the next race or even the one after that. Let F-C get the info he needs.

 

Right, the poll can stay open until race 4 without impact. Based on F-Cs post it seemed to me like he didn't realize race 1 was this week since he posted that just 3 days ago - that's what I was getting at.

Yeah definitely could iterate and make that happen, in order to enforce it though, folks would have to log in. Also thinking it through.. technically with an anonymous form like this, I could just pretend I am @civicdrivr and pick Zhou/Haas for all of my picks


We'll stick to the original process for the time being until @F-C gets sick of that shit and wants it to be more streamlined and we can go from there.

Also doesn't eliminate the max use picks.

 

that's not... a horrible idea, that's what the s2ki F1 threads do, but i don't think they're keeping track of points either.

 

Yeah, you'd have to wait until you were sure of your picks ahead of time & we'd have to allow exceptions for safety picks for those that are unable to access the thread in time
