I use sharebuilder, well I haven't used it yet, but I found out it doesn't trade alot of the microcap stocks. -_-

scottrade. i know a lot of people who use it and have had 0 problems with them. $7 bucks a trade for market and limit orders

some other friends i know use ameritrade too. either are solid
this question has been asked numerous times i seem to recall and these are the two responses that always come up

You can't beat scottrade! $7 transactions are pretty cheap!

I'm a fairly young person trying to get into buying stock in companies. I was lookin at sharebuilder cause it seemed like it might fit my budget at the time. Why do you guys recommend the people you are? I'm trying to research but would like to hear first hand your experiences with your choice.

if you are looking at OTC or Pinksheet stocks, then dont use sharebuilder. that's all I can say. if you only invest in like goggle or other nasdaq securities then it is fine choice since it doesn't require minimum deposit in your account

Ok. I was reading another thread and someone mentioned scotttrader? I went to their website and I liked their setup. I already noticed some stuff I could buy on there that I couldn't on sharebuilder. I was looking to buy stock in like new technologies, consumers products that i like, think will be around for a while or will take off inthe future.( but isn't everyone:P) I just don't want to be limiited in what I can buy.

i use ameritrade...the only thing i don't like about them are the lack of no transaction fee mutual funds.

I use Scottrade. I think it's very user friendly and full of features. PM me if you want a referral. Each of us will then get 3 free trades.

www.etrade.com (had it from a previous employer and too lazy to change)

I don't do much through etrade (fun money). Most of my investments are through a investment firm.

I use E*Trade and have for the last 15 years. I like the tools and service if I need it. Even though, I'm an active trader, I don't consider the extra dollar or two extra in commission a huge deal from other brokers. I do about 30 trades a quarter so maybe I pay an extra 60 bucks in commission each quarter but I love all the tools I have!

I like TDAmeritrade. Others may be cheaper but Ameritrade has never done me dirty so I have no reason to switch. For mutual funds I use Vanguard.

Siebert. Not very big, but it's not small. No problems.

For the people looking to start. After setting up your account, do some research, but I think a good place to start is an exchange traded fund. They track a market index, like the S&P 500. But I am not a financial advisor.

Bump.

Looking to set one up for fun investing (not main investing).

Any pros or cons of any online broker firms?

Vanguard
Scott trade
Ameritrade

any others?

For buy and hold index funds go with Vanguard. Don't bother with them for stock trading has they charge more on commissions than the discount brokers.

Yeah, I am thinking mostly for stock purchases and sales.

Maybe I am reading it wrong, but it looks like Vanguard is pretty similar to the other sites:

Huh, I thought it was always $20 with them. Vanguard doesn't have the cool streamer app that will amuse you at work though.
