In January 2008 I changed my withholdings based on what our projected income was: from 2 to 8. We made less than last year because wife left Navy and she's now a stay-at-home mother.

Based on that, I was expecting a bill from the government, or maybe something like $20 back. Well I was surprised because we're getting back $595. Ughhhh.

Sure... When that money could be earning near zero in a savings account, or negative returns in the market.

Hell, at least people are living off less than they technically could be going the less deduction route. Not a bad thing.

As for me, I file zero. Why? Because capital gains suck ass.

Yeah, I guess letting them hold it interest-free might be better than being taxed on the interest you make from you holding it. That might be worth calculating out.
