Tax Question

Just wondering if anyone has experience with deducting per diem rates for taxes? It appears I can deduct 80 percent depending on location.

If i was recieving a per diem or on expense account, how would it show on a w2?

Don't quote me on this, but if your expenses/per diem were used to pay for business related expenses, you don't have to claim it. I believe there is a time limit of around 18 continuous months of collecting per diem before they become taxable.

Still, check with a tax professional to verify.

Thank you for the reply. I am in the transportation business, and I am subject to DOT hour limitation standards. I travel all over the place, as it is my job to move people from here to there. I do not recieve a per diem, but the hotel is picked up on a company card. It looks like I need to use the standard 53 dollars a day or .75 x 53 for travel days that were not over nights, and 59 for out of the country. Then multiply that by .8 to get the ammount that is deductable for taxes.

I'm afraid to ask HR Block, and no one will touch my taxes for less that a grand around here. Has anyone had luck at HR Block or Jackson Hewitt?
